16 trillions? Are you drunk?
The total foreign reserve hold by China (3.6) and Japan (1.2) is just 4.8 trillions!

default would meant funding would be stopped, thousands fed work potentially wont get payed, no more interest pay to the current debt holder, credit rating plumet, stock market plumet, the next great depression, thats what it is.
You are confusing debt default with government collapse, they are not the same.

don't know where you get the idea, US debt is 16 trilions, you think default that will ONLY affect economy a bit do you know how many american hold Tbond via their 401k, retirment fund, goto fidelity and check. china and japan combine has less than 3 trillions US debt
T-bond maturities are 10yrs or more, the issue will be resolved before then.

16 trillion is TOTAL us debt, china and japan hold about 3 trillion US debt. the rest are hold by other foreign country, bank, private company, and american citizens.

reportedly China holds $1.28 tr., around 7.6% of US T bonds.

anyway Chinese trade surplus decreasing, in the long run buying in more assets, diversified overseas investment and RMB internationalization may be the way out.

perhaps USD:RMB can hit 1:5 in 2yrs - just my wild speculation.
