Taking Taiwan is not going to be a walk in the park for Chinese for various reasons.

1. Taiwan is not a backwater nation. It is highly industrialized and a first world country with decent military.
2. Taiwanese people are very very liberal. The govt is liberal, laws are liberal and society as a whole is very liberal. Integrating Taiwanese people into Chinese way of thinking will be difficult.
3. Unless China is going to bomb Taiwan into oblivion, it is not winning the war just by placing boots on the ground. No one has won a nation in decades by putting boots on ground. Chinese know this very well.
4. Blockade can work both ways.
5. With Russia busy in Ukraine, China may find itself stretched itself for resources in case of a war.
6. Chinese economy will need to adjust. US, Europe and Aus will find it pretty hard to sell to it's people why it is business as usual with China. The backlash on China in these nations will not be pretty for anyone.

This is Japan's backyard as well, Taiwans backyard is well. Taiwan will be defending against China. They being the defender and in an island, will be incredibly difficult for China to do the opposite. China might be rich, US + Japan + Taiwan are richer. Chinas population is growing old, they would have to spend in welfare, improved education and birth rates which they themselves admit will cause effect in the future. While, US has a healthy flow of immigrants (many unfortunately from our country). US has unparalleled geopolitical advantages - that's why they became a superpower. Good geography, good submissive neighbours (unlike ours), good economy, good people, good military. If China scores 9.5, US is 9.8 in national comprehensive power.

Taking of Taiwan by force will be very much dangerous to the countries in the vicinity. It will destabilise the regional order.
