Benghazi attack: Why the White House changed its story - CSMonitor.com

The White House initially laid the blame for the attack, as well as dozens of other protests that continue to roil the Mideast, on a YouTube clip from a movie called "The Innocence of Muslims" insulting of the Prophet Mohammed. White House spokesman Jay Carney first said the attack came "in response to "¦ a film that we have judged to be reprehensible and disgusting."

But this week, Mr. Carney changed the White House position and called the killing of Ambassador Stevens and three more diplomatic personnel a "terrorist attack." In a TV interview Friday, Obama added that radical Libyan factions had used the movie as an "excuse" for a sophisticated incursion.

Once Obama made the decision to invade Pakistan and kill Osama bin Laden, not thinkiing american is going to believe hes soft on Muslims. No thinking american is going to believe hes soft on muslism with almost daily drone strikes in Pakistan and other countries. I think muslims missed a good chance when they did not try to work things out with Obama, I think he was more sympathic to muslems then any president they are going to see in a long time, but he still did what he needed to do....

obama is a smooth liar
I am not a member of the Republican or Democratic parties. You show your ignorance by making assumptions regarding somebody you know nothing about.

I know lies when I hear them, and Obama lies every time he opens his mouth. Hillary apologizes to the world for the US having freedom of speech.

Yes, unfortunately you are an "average-american" and all that that implies.

I do see it as Obama lieing, I dont see any reason, or any gain from lieing about the attack. When something like that happens you get a lot of reports and lot of conclusions but you wait to the situation clarfies befor takeing any action and even then in this case there was little that could be done. I have been in embassies in Chile, Argentina, Moscow,,,, the US does not have enought military on hand to defend against determine attacks. That is the responsibility of host countries. The USA for example does not station troops in India to defend the US embassy against attacks, much less consultates in out lieing cities. The US embasssor was responsible for the safety of the embassy and its personell,,, if he knew it was unsafe he should not have been there or any the US personel if he did not know it was unsafe then I dont know how Obama should have knowen it.

Father of ex-SEAL killed in Libya says Clinton vowed to arrest and prosecute -- the filmmaker | Fox News
Three days after the deadly attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton apparently pledged to the father of one of those killed she would seek justice -- against the maker of an anti-Islam film.

Charles Woods, father of former Navy SEAL Tyrone Woods who was killed in the attack, expressed disbelief in media interviews this week, as he began to speak out about comments made to him by administration officials at the memorial service held Sept. 14.

Despite documents that indicated early on that militants were behind the attack on the U.S. Consulate, Woods described Clinton as being focused on the anti-Islam film that spurred protests elsewhere and was initially blamed for sparking the attack in Benghazi.

"Her countenance was not good and she made this statement to me ... she said we will make sure that the person who made that film is arrested and prosecuted," ... adding that she also apologized.

Woods said he "could tell that she was not telling me the truth."

A representative with the State Department did not respond to a request for comment.

The account shows an apparent disconnect between evidence that extremists were involved in the attack -- including a newly released State Department email on the day of the attack saying the militant Ansar al-Sharia had claimed responsibility -- and the desire by some to focus strictly on the film as the cause.

Woods' account also comes amid concerns on Capitol Hill that the administration has not done enough to go after those who actually committed the act of terror -- and may not have done enough to respond to requests for help on the night of the attack. Sources have separately told Fox News that a request for military back-up was denied by U.S. officials during that attack.

Woods also spoke this week with radio host Lars Larson, and offered a similar account of the Sept. 14 memorial. He said Clinton "mentioned that the thing about, we're going to have that person arrested and prosecuted that did the video. That was the first time I had even heard about anything like that."

Clinton and the rest of the administration made repeated reference to the video in their public comments in the days after the attack. U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice said on Sept 16 the attack was a "spontaneous" reaction to demonstrations over the video. The administration even funded an ad in Pakistan condemning the video.

Intelligence officials have since given a mixture picture, saying the strike was a coordinated terror attack -- but also leaving open the door to the possibility that militants reacted opportunistically to the protests in Egypt at the time over the film.

Woods also made some tough statements about President Obama's reaction when he met him during the memorial service.

"He kind of just mumbled, you know, 'I'm sorry.' His face was looking at me, but his eyes were looking over my shoulder like he could not look me in the eye. And it was not a sincere, 'I'm really sorry, you know, that you're son died,' but it was totally insincere."

Woods said shaking Obama's hand was "like shaking hands with a dead fish."

US Intel believes some Benghazi attackers tied to al Qaeda in Iraq

U.S. intelligence believes that assailants connected to al Qaeda in Iraq were among the core group that attacked the diplomatic mission in Benghazi, a U.S. government official told CNN.

That would represent the second al Qaeda affiliate associated with the deadly September 11 attack that killed U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.

Previously, intelligence officials said there were signs of connections to al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, the North African wing of the terror group.

The revelation that members of al Qaeda in Iraq are suspected of involvement in the Libya attack comes at a time when there is a growing number of fighters from that group also taking part in the Syrian civil war.

It also surfaces as questions persist about Benghazi security and the Obama administration's response to the attack that have become issues in the presidential campaign. Republicans have said issues around the attack illustrate weaknesses in President Barack Obama's foreign policy.

Retired Lt. Col.: My Sources Say Obama Was in the Room Watching Benghazi Attack Happen

Retired Army Lt. Col. Tony Shaffer said Saturday he has sources saying President Barack Obama was in the room at the White House watching the assault on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya unfold.

Two unarmed U.S. drones were dispatched to the consulate and recorded the final hours of the attack, which killed U.S. Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.

"This was in the middle of the business day in Washington, so everybody at the White House, CIA, Pentagon, everybody was watching this go down," Shaffer said on Fox News' "Justice with Judge Jeanine." "According to my sources, yes, [Obama] was one of those in the White House Situation Room in real-time watching this.

Shaffer served as a senior operations officer for the Defense Intelligence Agency in Afghanistan in 2003 and wrote a book critical of the policies there. The U.S. government purchased the entire print run for $47,000 in an attempt at censorship just before its 2010 publication, claiming it contained classified material.

Shaffer said the question now is what precisely Obama did or didn't do in the moments he saw the attack unfolding. The CIA reportedly made three urgent requests for military backup that were each denied.

"He, only he, could issue a directive to Secretary of Defense Panetta to do something. That's the only place it could be done," Shaffer said.

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said last week the military did not intervene because they did not have enough information about what was happening on the ground.

Col. David Hunt, a Fox News military analyst, said the military could have had jets in the air within 20 minutes and forces on the ground within two hours.

"The issue is always political with the White House, but the secretary of defense gives the order, has to be approved by the White House, they wouldn't pull the trigger, and it's disgraceful," Hunt said. "We've got guys dead."

U.S. General Arrested for Ignoring 9/11 Bengzahi Stand-Down Order

The official story surrounding the events of September 11, 2012 in Bengzahi, Libya which left four Americans dead, has now officially fallen apart.

After numerous flips and flops by the Obama administration, which originally attempted to paint the incident as a Muslim outcry over an anti-Islamic video, whistle blowers throughout the U.S. government, including within the White House, the State Department, national intelligence agencies and the U.S.military have made available stunning details that suggest not only did operational commanders have live visual and audio communications from drones overhead and intelligence assets on the ground, but that some commanders within the military were prepared to go-it-alone after being told to "stand down."

Africom commanding officer U.S. General Carter Ham, after being ordered to essentially surrender control of the situation to alleged Al Queda terrorists and let Americans on the ground die, made the unilateral decision to ignore orders from the Secretary of Defense and activated special operations teams at his disposal for immediate deployment to the area.

According to reports, once the General went rogue he was arrested within minutes by his second in command and relieved of duty.

"(The) basic principle is that you don't deploy forces into harm's way without knowing what's going on; without having some real-time information about what's taking place," Panetta told Pentagon reporters. "And as a result of not having that kind of information, the commander who was on the ground in that area, Gen. Ham, Gen. Dempsey and I felt very strongly that we could not put forces at risk in that situation."

The information I heard today was that General Ham as head of Africom received the same e-mails the White House received requesting help/support as the attack was taking place. General Ham immediately had a rapid response unit ready and communicated to the Pentagon that he had a unit ready.

General Ham then received the order to stand down. His response was to screw it, he was going to help anyhow. Within 30 seconds to a minute after making the move to respond, his second in command apprehended General Ham and told him that he was now relieved of his command.
The question now is whether the American people will hold to account the chain of command responsible for leaving our people behind, fabricating a politically expedient story, and continuing to sell the now defunct lie(s) even after all of their variations of the story were found to be false and misleading.

A General who made the decision to assist diplomatic and intelligence assets on the ground has been arrested and will likely be retired or worse, while those who ordered the removal of embassy security details and ordered U.S. forces to stand-down are left to go on about their business and likely risk more American lives in the future.

In some circles the actions of those at the very top of the command structure during the Bengzahi attacks would be considered traitorous.

Not likely true and not likely a good idea even it was.......Between 125 and 150 gunmen are reported to have participated in the assault.[24][25] Weapons they used during the attack included rocket-propelled grenades, hand grenades, AK-47 and FN F2000 NATO assault rifles, diesel canisters, mortars, and heavy machine guns and artillery mounted on gun trucks.[26][27] Attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The attack began at nightfall, with the attackers sealing off streets leading to the main compound with gun trucks.[25] The trucks bore the logo of Ansar al-Shariah, a group of Islamist militants working with the local government to manage security in Benghazi.[25]

A quick reaction force from the CIA annex arrived and attempted to secure the perimeter and locate the ambassador but were unable to find Stevens in the smoke-filled building. The team then decided to return to the annex with the survivors and Smith's body, which they did find. While en route back to the annex, the group's armored vehicle was hit by AK-47 rifle fire and hand grenades. The vehicle was able to make it to its destination with two flat tires, howeve

Apparently the "embassy" to which the thread title refers was not even a consulate.

Benghazi explained: Interview with an "Intelligence Insider"

Every politician, whether it's a congressman senator, diplomat, or their spokespeople and the media are lying to the American public every time they call the location of the attack a consulate. It was not. There was absolutely no diplomatic consulate in Benghazi. None. Words are important here. They can create a wrong image, an incorrect picture of what was really going on. The property where our Ambassador and other Americans were murdered was a rented villa consisting of a primary residence with a couple of outbuildings behind the actual house. The reason they're still calling it a consulate is to subtly divert any questions about our activities there... the place where the attack happened is one of the largest, one of the most active CIA operation centers in North Africa, if not in the entire Middle East. It was not a diplomatic station. It was a planning and operations center, a logistics hub for weapons and arms being funneled out of Libya. Unlike the embassy in Tripoli, there was limited security in Benghazi. Why? So the operation did not draw attention to what was going on there...What was really happening, before Gaddafi's body was even cold, is that we had people locating caches of weapons, separating the working from those that weren't, and making a big show of destroying the weapons, but only the weapons that were useless. The working weapons were being given to Islamic terrorists. They were being funneled through Libya, crisscrossing Libya on a Muslim Brotherhood managed strategic supply route. In fact, Michael Reagan called it the modern day equivalent of the Ho Chi Minh Trail in a recent article he wrote, and he is correct.

The entire arms and weapons running operation was headquartered in Benghazi, The weapons were actually being shipped out of Libya from the port city of Dernah, located about a hundred miles east of Benghazi. That was the 'choke point' of the weapons being shipped out. Remember the Lusitania? Think in those terms, ships carrying weapons hid among 'humanitarian aid.' By the time of the attacks, an estimated 30-40 million pounds of arms were already transported out of Libya.

From there, the weapons were being sent to staging areas in Turkey near the Syrian border, for use by the Free Syrian Army and other ragtag terrorist groups to fight against Assad. The objective was and still is to destabilize the Assad government.
