Really then how come he removed the previous President in a show of power and upmanship? Firing deputies left and right and holding them under house arrest? Foreign Minister sacked, Defense Minister sacked, etc.

Firstly, the old previous president came back and re-join the meeting later. Obviously, he was sick at the time (well, considering his age, I won't be surprised).

Secondly, are you sure it is the order that Xi is delighted to give? There is fiercely competition within CCP, everyone has his or her own enemies who want to pull him or her down. Sometimes, leaders were forced to remove some of their close allies due to the pressure from others.

Xi and all other Chinese leaders got to the top jobs by the support from their supporters. Without enough number of vote within CCP senior leaders, they can't remove anyone. Furthermore, they are military leaders, the consequence of every decision will be questioned and challenged by their colleagues. Even Mao had to resign some positions when he did something wrong.

Xi is not Mao, he doesn't have the reputation or authority to influence everything or everyone. Western media likes to make people believe that he is a dictator, but he is not. In today's CCP, no one can.

Who cares if Xi is Mao or Zhou En Lai or even Zhang Guotao as long as he takes China to war against Taiwan & invites the full power of the West led by the US against Zhongguo.
