IN and USN are cooperating with each other so i dont see why we will compete. Forget SL, there are always these talks/rumors of them wanting a base in India itself!!
What would happen if a Central govt with the leftists as prominent allies comes to power? They have no love lost for the US and Indo-US military co-operation will take a dip.
USN having a base in SL is better than having the Chinese having a base there.
Both will be having bases there. A US base there is not going to send the Chinese packing. The Lankans prefer the Chinese, they know that China is the future.
Ultimately it is a shame that India 'the aspiring superpower' needs the presence of foreign powers in its backyard to protect its own interests.
