I'm not advocating turning the clock back on our ties, but at times biding your time is better than rushing into a faux friendship. This is not a one off incident, but it is a litany of similar incidents which should make us wary.
You are over-reacting by making a false assumption that Trump is normal and what he says has substance. In orangeman's case, neither is true. His words and actions are piss in the wind and NO one takes him seriously, his own administration officials included.

No need to make a mountain out of rat shit.

What rushing in? India's closeness to US has been growing for the last 25 years, if anything it has been very gradual and deliberate.

I think Obama administration was more infantile...

Net net trump administration has allowed us more space to grow diplomatically, than Obama&hillary ever did.
We were, and will continue to be,foolish to hitch our bandwagon to this so called American pivot. Let's open up more diplomatic space by mending ties with Russia and China. Strengthen those with the EU. Seek new opportunities in SEA, Africa and Latin America. Our space will appear constricted if we are too focused on the US.

Well funny, you say no one takes him seriously and then we end up in a 8 page posting fest. One should know by now that Trump doesn't do anything just for the sake of it.

We should be Glad that foolish Pakis are
Obsessed with Afghanistan and Taliban

That is the Only Reason , US has stopped their Aid and Weapons

Otherwise if Pakis were to fully support US
In Afghanistan , they would have got many more F16s and Billions in Cash

Russian ties are fine. How about for once, Russia focuses on improving the quality of their services when it comes to India. While we buy a lot of goodies from them, when it comes to reliable performance and after sales, they are lack lustre.

Once the US-China trade deal happens (and it will), EU is next in line for the trade slug fest.

Chinese are rabid commie pigs who are the enemy, till they stop fucking around, there shouldn't be much room for this. Between 'India-Cheen Bhai Bhai', we'd be fucked 'Dayen Bayen'

Africa and Latin America are high risk investment zones. Many nations in Africa are in a debt trap thanks to Chinki OBOR.

I would say for now, let's focus on India, God knows we have plenty of work.

Well Americans think he is normal enough to be elected President (and probably for a second term) Normal or not, he is the one we will be dealing with and we better take him seriously, because this guy has already bullied India on both geopolitical and trade front. This is going to be the new norm in the Indo-US ties and we can deal with it as a sovereign nation or chose to live in denial.

Yup, this is the right approach...
But sadly our diplomatic corps are not geared to take up these projects at the moment, I guess we will have to wait for another 5 years atleast.

But fundamental thing we have to understand about strategic diplomacy is that, it’s always the case that long term business interests which guide strategic diplomacy. This applies to all major countries.

Are the Indian business houses showing any major interest in South America and Africa? For now they are mostly selling two wheelers in Africa and South America. Look at it from another angle, why does Modi govt lays such emphasis on good relationships with Middle East major economies like Saudi, UAE. It’s because we get 40-50 billion $ annually from Indians working there. It’s always the revenue which drives the foreign policy.

So if we want India’s foreign policy to focus on SEA, Africa and South America , it’s the Indian businesses who need to start looking at these regions first. Govt will automatically follow them to support them.

25 years ago nobody would have predicted the rise of American nationalism. America is now changing and we better pay attention. India's desire for closeness is not being reciprocated by the Trump administration and is unlikely to in the coming years. Unrequited love affairs are doomed to fail.

Overreaction would be when the EAM calls him a big fat liar in its official statement. Release the minutes of the meeting and ask him to explain why he made up this fake exchange of words with the PM.... Surely this is a diplomatic norm.
There was an article in the economic times which said that both sides have looked at the record and found no mention of any such thing. Attempting to publicly humiliate Trump (not sure you can ever do that...) hardly smacks of sensible diplomacy. The US state department has already attempted damage control, best to let this remain where it is.

We never did depend on USA for critical technology. Even now, the reason why India-USA relationship is not gaining momentum is because India is demanding Technology transfer which USA is denying. Hence, India doesn't see meaning in any ties with USA.

USA was always enemy of India. This is a usual affairs.

First understand that president is just a face. Clinton or Bush or Trump are all governed by deep state calculations. Obama was an exception as he was a mole of Arabs.

India got nuclear deal not because of Bush but due to calculation that the nuclear deal can be used to make India concede its nuclear power plants to civilian use and hence can be made to deprive India of Plutonium production by keeping Indian reactors under IAEA safeguard. However, BJP objection prevented that from happening and india selectively kept only some reactors under IAEA while keeping rest under military use. But it has nothing to do with Bush using his whims. It was a calculated decision by deep state of USA.

Israel is not as strong as you claim. Israel is weak and can only defend itself due to fortification and USA technology. Israel can't engage in offensive actions and get decisive victory.

Iran can't defeat USA but can definitely destroy all the oil infrastructure of middle east and deprive the world of over 20 million barrels of oil export. This will ruin global economy irreversibly and also destroy petrodollar of USA. The gains of fighting Iran is not enough to start a war.

Iran itself will not start a war but can't be simply taken out by anyone else easily
Nigga Please, you do not speak for 'India'.

Well for enemies, we seem to have bought a lot of stuff from the US P-8Is, C-17s, C-130J, Apaches, MH-64s, NASAMS-2, M-777, Chinooks. Either we are stupid or in reality we are decent friends with disagreements.

Actually Trump is the only one who is not a deep state shill. That fact that Deep state had a melt down because he got elected proves this.

Israel has over 200 nukes, some of the finest pilots on God's green earth and a will to fuck anyone who fucks with them savagely. That's all that matters. You should read-up their history before talking complete non sense.

Last time Iran had a war, they were only good for getting gassed.

You also seem to think Saudis, UAE, Oman, Israel and US are some pushovers. Again nigga please. One shot coming from Iran itself on any of these areas would invoke a thrashing like we haven't seen in decades. Everything from Rafales, EFs, F-15s, F-35s, F-22s, F-18SHs, B-1s, B-52s, B-2s would be deployed. Russia will back out quick fast.

Also, so far Iran is the one doing naughty shit. How about those sand ayatollah niggas just sit down, smoke some hashish, fuck some Goats and give up their nukes. That is literally what Israel and rest of the world wants anyways.

I would argue that American nationalism never went away, it got suppressed in American MSM during Obama’s second term. What we are seeing now is a reaction to that. The flower power era oldies thought they would use Obama presidency to bring back hippie politics and take it to next phase. And then trump happened.

Yes, there is a growing nationalism in the US, I agree but the rest of the population are libtards, commies and soy boy douches. I prefer the US now actually.

Closeness is two way street, I suppose DT would be happier if we drop some of those heavy tariffs anyways.

It is better for India, a long term global power to have cosy relations with Russia, US regardless of who is in power. Occasionally there will be disrupters or a even soy-boys but strategic relations would remain in tact.

Actually that’s not a reading supported by facts. US desires closeness in the relationship as much as India, where there is a dispute is on the trade deficit. That can and should be worked on and managed. We will always have issues to deal with but they need not be the defining points of the relationship.
