The command of the SAA plans to take the city of Beit Jinn in the south of the province of Damascus the other day.
An enclave of armed groups of radical Islamists, including the terrorist "Dzhebhat an Nusru" (banned in the Russian Federation), existed in the area of Western Guta since 2013. However, due to the transfer of forces from the fronts in the east of Syria after the military defeat of the "Islamic state" in the province of Deir ez Zor, it was possible to activate the full-scale offensive of the SAA and the "National Defense Forces" in the "pocket" of Beit Jinn.
On December 15, the enclave was successfully split into two parts: the western section - with settlements Beit Jinn and Mugr al-Mir, and the eastern - with the settlements of Beit-Tim, Beit Saber and Kafr-Havr. Then the 4th Panzer Division of the SAA managed to reach the outskirts of the city of Mugr al-Mir and clear a number of heights to the north of Beit Jinn.
After that, government troops continued to develop the offensive, occupying key heights. So, on December 17, under the control of the SAA and the "National Defense Forces", the hills of al-Ahmar, al-Maktul and Hazan crossed. On December 20, there were reports that government forces established fire control over the Beit Jinn area and cleared virtually all strategic hills around the western part of the enclave. And the day before it became known about the liberation of the Al-Khunkarat district, which, in fact, opened the way for an attack on Beit Jinn from the south-eastern direction.
When the fighters "Hayat Tahrir ash Sham" were surrounded by SAA, the Syrian military command suggested that the terrorists capitulate, but they refused, being trapped in a valley below the government-controlled heights.
Military experts noted that this decision of the militants could be connected with the hope for the assistance of the special services of Israel, which have repeatedly provided "Hayat Tahrir al-Sham" support in this area, supplying weapons and providing medical assistance to wounded terrorists.
