China using Nepal study centres for spying?

NEW DELHI: Incursions by the Chinese army into Indian territory may have dominated news space in the past few months but India's external
intelligence agency RAW has warned that a more serious issue at hand is the mushrooming of rather innocuously named Nepal-China study centres in Nepal which are being used by the Chinese to spy on India. :twizt:

Highly placed officials in the government revealed that RAW has conveyed to the government that these study centres, which are located all along the Indo-Nepal border, are being used to clandestinely gather information on Indian activities. Sources said the agency has identified 24 such centres, most of which are located in close proximity to Nepal's border with India.

It is not just these study centres in Nepal which have left Indian agencies racking their brains. Sources revealed that RAW is monitoring around 30 Chinese firms which have set up base in Nepal and may be involved in spying on India.

Sources said most of these firms were headed by former PLA officers making it almost mandatory for India to keep an eye on their activities. They cited example of some construction and telecom companies which are active in Nepal and their operations are headed by retired Chinese army officers.

According to Indian officials, the speed at which the study centres have come up in the past few years is a manifestation of the way in which China has tried to increase its influence in Nepal. Beijing has been offering military and financial assistance to Nepal and its envoy in Nepal Quo Guohang said last month that if Nepal faces threats to its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, China would help it not only militarily but also financially and diplomatically.

"RAW is aware of the situation. These centres are mostly located close to Nepal's open border with India. There is an understanding developing within the government that if this continues, the issue will have to be taken up diplomatically with Nepal," said a senior security official. These study centres are mostly headed by Chinese and are supposed to provide an insight into Chinese customs, language and economic development.

China has gone out of its way to present itself before Nepal as an alternative to India in the past two years and has promoted multi-level interactions with Nepal and its people. Beijing is constructing a highway connecting Lhasa to Kathmandu at a cost of over $100 million. The two countries are seeing enhanced military cooperation. In September 2008, China announced a $1.3 million military aid package for Nepal and three months later PLA promised another $2.6 million for the same purpose.

Indian Army launches annual maintenance of forward posts along China border

Indian Army launches annual maintenance of forward posts along China border

Noor Khan l Wed, 16 Sep 2009 at 20:53 IST

New Delhi: The Indian Army has launched a massive effort at strengthening forward posts along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China, which they described as "routine."

The effort, aimed at operational alertness and kick-started this week, comes at this time annually just before the weather gets worse during winters.

"Nothing much should be attached to this effort, which is carried out annually for maintenance of the forward posts before the weather makes it impossible. This is a matter of routine," Army sources said here this evening.

The effort will go on for a month and for the purpose, the Army has employed about half of its strength posted along the 4,057-km-long LAC in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh in active duty, they said.

This maintenance effort comes at a time when there have been reports of incursions by Chinese troops in Chumar region of Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir where they brought in a military helicopter to air-drop food cans and painted Mandarin letters on some of the stones to lay claim to the territory.

These incursions, the Army had said, were "nothing unusual" due to differing perceptions of LAC on both sides.

Other media reports of Chinese fighter jets violating Indian airspace and firing at ITBP jawans in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh in the last three months have been denied by the government.

Welcome to the world of American politics. There is a trick to this game of politics.

If China is strong, America will fear her and look for imperfections. If China is weak, America will look at her with contempt and highlight the reasons for her weakness. If China chooses to be obedient, like Japan or England or Russia in the 1990s, America will have disdain for the lapdog. If China chooses to pursue her self-interests, America will be up in arms when it conflicts with American interests.

No matter how you play the game, you can't win. The best that you can hope for is to gain American respect by becoming wealthier and militarily stronger. Nothing commands respect like success. Trust me. The 2007 KE ASAT test shocked and angered the United States (they can poke out our eyes in the sky!), but it also engendered grudging respect.

Western country and Indian is used to treating Chinese as no-mind order receiver.stop it,do you really know us?do you really think Chinese people is easily fooled by CCP's media tool?you are wrong,we bear it ,just because ,we judge there's much more important and emergent work to do.I admit there's a lot of problem in China. We ignore some of them just because we prefer to get a more rich life first more than wasting time to argue for so called liberty.we are eager to get wonderful wealth as quickly as possible. After finishing being richman ,then we will ask for more. In chinese mind, get money first no matter happy or not,in Indian mind ,enjoy life first no matter be rich or not. It's difficult to say which mind is better.it's just difference of culture.let's agree the disagree. It's very strange to see so much Inidan focus on blaming China, are you so leisure that you have to kill time by this way?have you been a developed country yet?if not, save time to build your country first.

Then you should acknowledge as such, otherwise we're led to think it as one of your own creations. It's got something to do with 'intellectual property'.

As for America and us getting the same "shit" 50 years from now, it's unlikely. We're only a third their size and there is a vast technological gulf between us. You however are almost equal their size and have ameliorated that technological gap somewhat. Also, being a democratic state, there are inherent intra-state dynamics that could be exploited if the U.S. desired to "keep us in check". For the foreseeable future, you will remain their primary geopolitical rival and they will keep arming us against you, just as they do Pakisthan against us.

HAHA, I enjoy reading this tread so much. In the face of the truth that China is India #1 trading partner and the dollar amount is soaring year after year, this tread can only serve 1 goal: entertaining.

US is in the near future serious threat to China's security. It's obvious that US is an important factor in CCP's policy making.

Russia has no design on China so it's not a threat.

India is not yet in a position to threaten China.

India does not threaten China.

Yet, she (China) feels threatened!

Odd!

I'd rather use the word disturbed, since India appears to be tackling China on minor issues.

Addition: This is no offence! I believe that neither is China in a capable position to threaten India! We might find each other "disturbing"?

Maybe because whever india decids to improve its military capability, it always use china's "threat" as the execuse.

India has every right to do so. It gives us enough PR to let the whole world know chinese intentions on Indian territory and at the same time keeps us on our toes to kick china in its balls if it tries to misadventure.

Come on, we are busy dealing with enemies which are more powerful, we have never seen India as a threat.
