United States Army forces target railway cars south of Wonsan, North Korea, an east coast port city, during the Korean War. Trains in North Korea were targets of attack by U.S. and other U.N. forces, so much so that both military and civilian trains often had to wait out the daylight hours in tunnels.

An American Medium Tank M3, commonly called the "General Lee" (after Robert E. Lee) in Britain, on training exercises at Fort Knox, Kentucky in June, 1942. At the outset of World War II, the M3 was developed as an interim solution to replace the outdated M2, before the M4 Sherman could be mass-produced. The carrier is afire and listing after she was hit by a Japanese air attack while operating off the coast of Japan - the crew is clearly seen on deck.
After the attack the vessel lay dead in the water, took a 13° starboard list, lost all radio communications, and broiled under the heat from enveloping fires. Many of the crewmen were blown overboard, driven off by fire, killed or wounded, but the hundreds of officers and enlisted who voluntarily remained saved their ship through sheer tenacity. The casualties totaled 724 killed and 265 wounded, and would have far exceeded this number if it were not for the exemplary work of many survivors.

Russian TU 144LL

Tupolev-144LL is a Flying Laboratory. LL means Letayuschchaya Laboratoriya, i.e. Flying Laboratory. Even Ilyushin-76LL is a Flying Laboratory version of the venerable Ilyushin-76, and is used by Gromov Flight Research Institute to test various aviation engines, including the Indian Kaveri.

Tupolev-144 was the world's first SST (Super-Sonic Transport), i.e. first supersonic airliner, made by the USSR.

Later, after services were discontinued, one Tupolev-144 (registration no: RA-77114) was converted to a research platform for Tupolev/NASA tests, and it was renamed Tupolev-144LL:
