The UK authorities have agreed to return the 'Wagh Nakh', a dagger shaped like tiger claws which was used by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to kill Bijapur Sultanate's general Afzal Khan in 1659.

To formalise the return, state cultural affairs minister Sudhir Mungantiwar will be visiting the Victoria and Albert Museum in London later this month to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

If all goes according to plan, the renowned wagh nakh may be back in its rightful place this year.

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has recently confirmed that a total of 105 antiquities that were smuggled from India to the United States, arrived in the country about two weeks ago.

These include various artworks such as a terracotta plaque featuring a standing figure with attendants, a bronze sculpture depicting Lord Krishna in the Kalinganarthana posture, a sandstone image of Vishnu and Lakshmi riding the Garuda, and a terracotta vase from Eastern India.

In response to a right to information query by The Indian Express, the ASI mentioned that 105 antique art objects were repatriated from the USA in August 2023.

ASI also mentioned that efforts are underway to repatriate more antiquities from other countries.

Thanks for showing this thread. Recently I came across a Tamil Youtuber vlog on Gingee Fort. The fort is kind of a major cantonment for various kingdoms during its usage. Finally it was came under French control and as our beloved frenchies took the Bell and currently displaying it in their museum.

Hope in future we can able to get back

USA to return 1,414 ancient Murtis and artifacts, including Met Museum displays which were illegally taken from India, largest restitution so far

The ASI team will also authenticate the objects as "antiquities" or "non-antiquities". ASI officials said the new batch of 1,414 objects is likely to include non-antiquities as well, and will be ranked accordingly, keeping the definition of "antiquity" in mind.
