He's gaining popularity. Could become future president but not within 10 years time. He will probably become the next defense minister.

Well I am not a rum person per say. I drink whiskey and arrack. A good local bottle (750 ml that is) cost around 2250 LKR. that is about 750 INR. Beer is far cheaper. Food is what expensive here.

I'd assume it's a temporary issue due to the switch to "organic" farming without calculating the drop in Agri produce?

Yes. What ever happens. We fought for independence from India for about 2500 years. It is not right to sacrifice it. Not by our generations at least.

No we have been importing many of our staple food. Wheat from America, Dhal from Canada and many other vegetables and grain from India. With the import restrictions food prices have skyrocketed.

"Organic" Fiasco would hit us in the coming seasons. The full force of it haven't been felt yet.

We could only manage to produce rice with some surplus. But now this is not even feasible.

We don't have enough land to produce large quantity of food stuff. Plus it also affected by bad management and strategy.

now, ig you might have got the real problem here

Any such scenario where sri lanka becomes Chinese colony/ally will turn itself into a play thing between india china and US.

Remember that Diego Garcia is less than 2000 km from sri lanka.

Sri lanka's interests are served by playing india usa and china off each other.

Our and US interests are served by making sure sri lanka stays neutral.

Because we don't need sri lanka to project power into IOR as we have our peninsula, island territories, bases on less populated and farther off island nations in IOR
US is also in a similar position.

China on the other hand absolutely needs sri lanka to give up some sovereignty and bases etc.

We can and should use this and not let ourselves be guided by hubris.

Political Integration of Sri lanka doesn't offer much.
No gain in resources that we cant trade either.
We'll just import a new headache with secessionist tendencies.

Our focus should be economic and cultural integration.
We are much better situated than china in this regard.

And with time ie decades sri lanka and indian relationship will evolve where going against each other's interests will be costly for both and opposed by domestic population.

That should be the goal.
