IA looking for 40k lmgs chambered 7.62*51mm. Since we are adopting for sig716 as battle,it supplements the logistics.now that we are adopting AK 203 which chambers 7.62x39 round, what will be the LMG and its caliber .one more thing why we dont use belt fed LMGs
5.56x45mm NATO chambered carbine.and what caliber carbine will be
Every caliber has its own use. 5.56 & 7.62 AK are primary caliber, 7.62 nato would be used in specialist roles just like 50 cal AMR and .338 lapua which will enter service in next 5 years.no offence,so then we will be maintaining inventory of 9mm, 5.56x45mm , 7.62x39 , 7.62*51mm ,,rounds apart from other things
Imho most of the ak 203 will go to counter insurgency units, carbines are meant for the officers to replace 9 mm carbines while the 7.62 NATO will go to front line soldiers in the plains and deserts.what i meant was all the above mentioned caliber in one infantry battalion
Not every frontline unit is going to ve equipped with Sigs, but only those at Rajasthan, Punjab & Glacier etx where a weapon with long range is a necessity. For rest of the troops in Kashmir, NE and hinterland, range doesnt matter much but stopping power.so 700,000+ ak 203 for counter insurgency troops, less then 100,000 Sig 716 7.62 NATO for front line soldiers if i understand it right
Any idea about what do we do of old weapons? In US they have special inventory of old military items known as reserves. They store everything from guns to tanks. Do we have similar facilities? or do we just send old stuff to scrapyard? The AK-203 along with the Sig 716, manufactured with by United States-based SIG Sauer will be replacing the INSAS rifles as well as all the AK-47s.

Follow on 75,000 sig sauer will also come. Not every frontline unit is going to ve equipped with Sigs, but only those at Rajasthan, Punjab & Glacier etx where a weapon with long range is a necessity. For rest of the troops in Kashmir, NE and hinterland, range doesnt matter much but stopping power.
You are right, there is no well defined nomenclature for any type of weapons(in usa, they call assault rifles without stock as "pistols", Thompson and tec9 guns as machine guns coz it fires with open bolt). There is no prerequisite that 'LMG' has to be belt-fed.
I think you are referring to is RPKs and m27 kind of rifles (where standard close bolt rifle is beefed up with thicker barrel).recently the US Marines & British Army are all magazine-fed models
There are two scheme of things:I have two question:
1) What happens to old INSAS rifles after we induct AK 203 ?
2) Will we replace INSAS with AK 203 or other rifles such as AK47, AKM, etc and captured rifles from terrorists will also be replaced?
