Pak suffers heavy casualties, infra damage

Sanjeev Pargal
JAMMU, Oct 12: Two persons including an Army soldier and a defence porter attained martyrdom while six others including a porter were injured, a couple of them seriously, in heavy firing by Pakistan army in Khari Karmara area of Poonch sector this morning while Pakistani troops also suffered heavy losses in retaliatory firing by the Indian side that led to fierce exchanges for couple of hours.

Indian side retaliated very effectively in which several forward posts and bunkers of Pakistan army were decimated. Pakistani troops were also reported to have suffered heavy casualties, both fatal and non-fatal.

Sources told the Excelsior that Pakistan army violated ceasefire by resorting to heavy firing targeting forward posts of the Indian soldiers and some civilian pockets at Khari Karmara, near Chakan-Da-Bagh, in Poonch sector at 10.35 am today inviting strong retaliation from the Indian side.

Heavy exchange of firing continued for more than two hours.
Sources said an Army jawan and a defence porter were martyred in the Pakistan firing while six others were injured, two of them seriously. A porter was among the injured. Army evacuated dead and injured from the forward posts and shifted them to Poonch from where the injured were airlifted to Command Hospital in Udhampur.

The martyrs have been identified as Sepoy TK Reddy and defence porter Mohammad Zahir.

Sepoy TK Reddy, 21, belonged to village Obulapuram, Tehsil Giddaluru, District Prakasam in Andhra Pradesh and is survived by his mother Gurrumma while defence porter Mohammad Zahir, 22, belonged to village Kalali in Manjakote tehsil of Rajouri district.

“Sepoy TK Reddy was a brave and sincere soldier while Mohammad Zahir was honest and dedicated works. The nation will always remain indebted to them for supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty,” a Defence spokesman said.

Injured have been identified as Sepoy Kedar Gauri Shankar of Solapur, Maharashtra, Sepoy Nitesh Nare, Naik Rupnar Babasaheb Janaku R/o Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. Naik R Munthupondu of Tamil Nadu, Sepoy Narendra Kumar of Chhattisgarh and Mohammad Isaq son of Jamaludin R/o Kurhed, Peliniha, Rajouri, a defence porter.

Sources said Pakistan army suffered heavy losses in retaliatory action by the Indian troops.

There were reports that a number of forward posts and bunkers of Pakistani troops were destroyed in retaliation in which some Pakistan army personnel were killed and injured. Shelling from Pakistan side stopped immediately after their troops suffered heavy damages in retaliation. Hectic activity could be seen on Pakistan side after counter attack by the Indian side. Pakistani ambulances could be seen shifting dead and injured to the hospitals.

According to sources, some militants have also gathered at launching pads on Pakistan side of the LoC opposite border district of Poonch. They could attempt infiltration into the Indian territory under the cover of ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops.

However, the Indian Army was maintaining strict vigil all along LoC to give befitting reply to ceasefire violations as well as infiltration attempts from Pakistan side, they said.

“Intensity of firing by Pakistani troops was less targeted towards civilian areas and more on forward posts of the Army,” sources said, adding that rounds, however, landed in civilian areas of Khari Karmara and surroundings but the civilians were already alert and took shelter in available bunkers, houses and other areas to save themselves.

Khari Karmara village, which was heavily shelled today, is located adjacent to Chakan-Da-Bagh point in Poonch district from where cross-LoC bus and trucks used to operate when travel and trade was operational between Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) on Poonch-Rawlakote route.

However, cross-LoC trade and travel was suspended on Poonch-Rawlakote route on July 10 in view of heavy mortar shelling and firing by Pakistani troops at various places on LoC in twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri including Chakan-Da-Bagh from where cross-LoC bus and trucks used to cross over to Rawlakote from Poonch prior to July 10.
There has been no let up in Pakistan shelling and firing along LoC in Rajouri and Poonch districts since May this years in which some Army and BSF personnel, besides civilians, have been killed while a number of others were injured.

In retaliatory firing by India, Pakistan has suffered immense damage with large number of Pakistani troops killed and injured and their infrastructure in forward areas destroyed.

The day pakis generals give a damn about their dead soldiers, give me a call. Stopping provocations would be a clear admission that we've taught them a lesson, and they will never admit that.

They have done so in the past 2003 ceasefire was one. Also the recent DGMO meetings and BSF-Rangers meeting, even their media reported that the meetings were at Pakistan's behest.

It's more to that. I think they are specifically focussing on Poonch/Rajouri area as a part of a long term plan- to flip the demographics, among other things..

Security forces in Kashmir to get high-tech weapons to deal with Pakistani Terrorists

To help the security forces deal with the terrorists in the Kashmir Valley more efficiently, the government has decided to upgrade their weaponry system with high-tech armaments.

The most important them are the robots which will help them trace the exact location of the terrorists holed up at a location.

The second is the Joint Venture Protective Carbine, which has been manufactured by the Ordinance factory board. The state-of-the-art gun has been recently given to the CRPF personnel deployed in the Valley.

It is also expected that the Armed forces deployed in the Valley will soon be provided with Multi-Corner Shot Guns, which are meant for special operations. These guns are the same used by the Israeli defence forces for their secret operations.

These shot guns with monitors which can trace the target even it has covered itself with an object, or is hiding behind a wall. Its barrel can be tilted up to 90 degree, and the laser installed in it helps in close combat operations.

Also, the pellet guns, which faced severe criticism from several quarters, have now been modified and will come with deflectors, which will control the impact of the gun.

India to change key army formations along China border, boost infrastructure after Doklam stand-off

Close on the heels of the Dokalam standoff, organisational changes are likely in some of the key Army formations besides steps to boost infrastructure along the nearly 4,000 km-long Sino-India border including around the areas of dispute.

The decisions were taken at the Army’s commanders conference which extensively deliberated on the Dokalam face off with China besides analysing all possible security challenges on the northern border, official sources said.

In his address at the week-long conference that began in New Delhi on Monday, Chief of Army Staff Gen Bipin Rawat asked the commanders to be prepared for all eventualities at “all times” while defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman emphasised the need to guard against “inimical forces”.

Director general staff duties Lt. Gen. Vijay Singh, briefing on the outcome of the conclave which was also attended by top defence ministry officials, said it was decided that there would be considerable “heft” towards road construction activities in the northern sector.

He said the issue of organisational changes of some of the formations for capability enhancement was examined, adding it was decided to grant additional funds to Border Roads Organisation, a defence ministry entity, for development of roads and other infrastructure.

Official sources said capacity enhancement along the Sino-India border was a major focus area and the conclave decided to boost infrastructure along the entire stretch with China including around areas of dispute.

In her address, Sitharaman lauded the Army for its swift and effective response in dealing with “external and internal threats”, seen as a reference to the Army stopping the construction of a road in Dokalam by China and its anti-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir.

The conclave on Friday discussed issues relating to military operations and evolving security dynamics in the region.

While talking about security challenges, the Army Chief highlighted the need for according priority to procurement of arms and ammunitions, in an apparent indication of unhappiness over delay in buying critical weapons for the force.

“Our approach to procurement process needs to be balanced with focus at the right places,” Gen Rawat was quoted as saying by Singh.

On her part, Sitharaman said focus will be on ensuring capability enhancement and capacity building of the Army in a time-bound manner. She also emphasised the need for jointness and integration of all the services in effectively dealing with emerging challenges.

While Gen Rawat asserted that there will be no compromise with respect to issues relating to welfare of the armymen, Sitharaman said keeping up the morale of the armed forces personnel will remain a priority.

On boosting infrastructure along the borders, Singh said “four passes to Niti, Lipulekh, Thangla 1 and Tsangchokla have been decided to be connected by 2020 on priority.” All these passes are along the Sino-India border in central sector.

He said a roadmap for intra sector connectivity within central sector and inter-sector connectivity with neigbhouring areas have been discussed.

The commanders also deliberated on the cadre review of Junior Commissioned Officers and other ranks (OR), which now stands approved, and implementation of the Shekatkar committee recommendation on carrying out reforms in the force.

The issue of employment of women officers in areas of specialisation that require continuity also figured.

Singh said implementation of cadre review of JCOs and 0R resulting in 1.45.5137 additional promotional vacancies will be the top priority of the Army.

In the next two days, the commanders will discuss a number of issues relating human resources which include promotion of eligible officers to the rank of Lieutenant General.

He said the Army has decided to modernise all military stations on par with the government’s smart city project and initially, 58 stations have been identified for the project. The army has over 2,000 military stations across the country.

During interactions with top officials of the defence ministry, the commanders discussed a host of issues like expediting acquisition projects, providing liberallsed family pension to those other than battle causalities and matters relating to defence land, said Singh.

Defence secretary Sanjay Mitra stressed on the need for a time bound action plan to resolve the issues.

He said the conference decided to seek necessary sanction from the government to allow the Army to carry out procurement under the existing system till Mar 31, 2018 when the Government eMarket system is likely to stabilise.

Good point. Poonch is Hindu majority and Rajouri has a significant Hindu minority. The solution to this is to force them to open fire on the separatist muslim majority sectors. This way, they will drastically lose goodwill among the jihadi kashmiri population, at least in the border.

Indian Army firing kills 2, Including a girl along LoC

https://www.pakistantoday.com.pk/20...unprovoked-firing-on-loc-pak-army-retaliates/

Indian forces resorted to unprovoked firing and shelling at Teetri Note, Poonch sector on the control line.

As per reports, the shelling resulted in a college van being destroyed, also damaging crossing point terminal. It also partly damaged houses, whereas the power system was completely disturbed.

A woman was also injured in Rawalakot area.

In a befitting reply, Pakistani forces destroyed several bunkers of Indian forces.

According to details, around 6.40am Indian forces resorted to unprovoked firing and shelling at Teetri Note, Poonch Sector on the control line. The firing lasted for about one and a half hour. Indian forces targeted civilian population with heavy artillery, destroying Iqra Model College. A children bus on its way to fetch children was completely destroyed and window panes of several buildings were broken.

Moreover, an imambargah also came under attack.

The Pakistan Army also retaliated to the Indian aggression.

A private news channel reported that Indian forces targeted civilian population in Abbaspur, Poonch sector, injuring 46-year-old Safina Bibi.

It should be mentioned here that for the past few months, Indian forces have been targeting civilian areas across the border in Pakistan; the largely unprovoked firing has left scores of people dead and many others injured.

On September 24, a civilian was martyred and two others were injured in firing from across the border.

“Indian troops resorted to unprovoked firing of small arms and mortars along LoC in Nikyal sector,” the ISPR said in a statement. “A 22-year-old girl embraced shahadat while two [other] civilians were injured.”

Most probably India is not retaliating as it has to.
