India is looking forward to host French President Nicholas Sarkozy and his wife Carla Bruni on December 6 and 7, sources have told The Indian Express.
The dates were proposed by the French in a recent meeting with Indian officials, who agreed. Sarkozy's itinerary is being worked out, sources said, and will in all likelihood include a stopover in Mumbai and a visit to the Taj Mahal in Agra. Sarkozy visited the Taj during his last visit in January 2008 — he was the chief guest at Republic Day parade — also, but then Bruni was not with him. In fact, that visit was in news more for her absence than for the usual political reasons.
This time Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has reportedly asked Sarkozy to bring along Bruni.
India and France are working to wrap up the deal on the supply of two nuclear reactors to India by year-end, so that the agreement can be signed during the French president's visit.
