There is unconfirmed reports that Turks tried firing at an SU-34. There is video of the SU-34 pulling very card maneuvers and deploying counter measures for a considerable amount of time. It’s is not surprising at all, within the past week two Syrian helicopters were shot down and Turks fired at an SU-24.

It’s very likely that the Russian Air Force has enough and took matters into their own hand. The Turks have been playing these dirty tricks for years.

Su 34 is only used by Russian air force no surprise they messed up with Russia . Now they should regret about it.

The question is how reliable is Russia as an arms supplier? Turkey already paid and took deliveries of 2 batteries of S-400 super duper SAM. Why can't Turkey use it to enforce a no-fly zone around its area of operation? Seems to me those S-400s are useless since Russia has it and Syria knows how it works.

S-400's utter uselessness agsinst Syrian warplanes is a very bad sign for India's S-400 purchase. Looks like it will be no use also against China (an S-400 operator) or even Pakis (who China will brief extensively on S-400 capabilities and weaknesses.

In the same way chinese s400 will also be useless against us.

I have no opinion on it. The only thing I will say is that it is very likely that Turkish aircraft will eventually shoot down another SU-24 or SU-34 unless Russia provides SU-35 or SU-30 for escorts which I don’t see so far.

The S-400 was probably sold under certain conditions. I also believe the system is plenty potent, you have to remember that an ancient S-200 shot down an F-16 a few years ago when it flew high enough to be engaged. Moreover old Soviet missiles have shot down modern western aircraft over Yemen pretty much on a monthly basis.

The Turks would be foolish to use the S-400, I’m sure Russia has a counter for it since they developed it and besides Russia could cut off the supply of missiles and other support and logistics if need be.

Till now Turkey was killing kurds in syria but they crossed the limit by targeting assad forces. Russia would go to any extent to protect them.

I believe the Syrians still have surrounded and besieged a number of Turkish “outposts”. Turks are essentially barricaded prisoners and if Turkish Forces continue attacking Syrian positions and allowing more jihadists to cross into Syria then those outpost are legitimate targets.

If Turks think today was a bad day then I would hate to see things escalate. In reality Syria can demolish the besieged outpost and target more outpost and concentrations of Turkish amour. It’s interesting how this mess will unfold.

To be fair Turks are not admitting to firing on Russian aircraft either, even one of their official state news agencies are denying Turks fired MANPADs at Russian aircraft even though there is 3-4 videos clearly showing otherwise. Turks have also bombarded Syrian positions from their “observation posts” and then complained Syria is breaking ceasefires and then has the audacity to demand the Syrian army pull out of Idlib which is obviously sovereign Syrian territory.


The Turks have pretty much annexed Idlib and are threatening Syria to stay away.

All along I have really found this S-400 confounding. If the IAF does not like US SAM then there are very good Israeli and French analogues. But why buy a Strategic asset that your main enemy possesses and your smaller enemy no doubt have unfettered access to its tech and working...
