Actually, the USA knows exactly what it is doing by "fighting" decade+ long wars; maintaining presence in an area where they otherwise will not be able to operate freely and justifying its defence budget, which is about 40% of the world's defence budgets (excluding its black budget for black projects.)

Not yet!

The objective is establishing land route from Tehran to Damascus which is free from interference.

This is a bitter fight, as it is literally clash of civilizations.

Russia now has a firm foothold in Syria in return for its contribution to security of Syria.

Russia is playing a role complementary to Iran. Together they have made USA irrelevant in Syria.

Dozens of Generals? Why would "dozens" or generals assemble at one point? The news was kept under wraps because the truce was about to start? This happened in Latakia? Where in Latakia? Latakia is a big area.

I smell fake news.

Actually there are only 2 Generals in Latakya (airbase commander Major General and VKS spokesman Leutennant General Viktor Kanashenkov), so no dosen or dosens in Syria. Another 3-4 Generals are in Eurasian Coalition Control and Coordination Center in Baghdad.
Russian Army has the most sophisticated guarding systems in the world.
They can detect any object even in anti-IR cloaks, designate object groups, distinguish humans from animals, armed humans from civillians, detect any explosive on man or on track for several hundred meters from guarding perimeter. And all of this stuff is connected into joint perimeter guard system.
Also there are interesting things to stop the perimeter penetration with or without target destruction including explosive fuzes jamming and/or premature fuze engagement.
