Gurkhas are good soldiers, especially because of their physical fitness and endurance bred out of the environment they live in and then train for joining British and Indian armies. But they are not some superhumen. It takes years of training for a new recruit to be effective in modern battlefield and the retired ones may not have the same physical fitness. Also, in traditional armies soldiers often fight for the honour of the banner i.e. regiment so as not to be the reason for the dishonour of the hallowed name of their respective regiments. This spirit isn't something inculcated in few months.

Yup. Gurkhas without proper training in the Indian Army or British Army cannot function upto what people expect of them from their reputation. They will most probably be used as cannon fodder by Wagner to save Slavic lives after a few weeks of basic training. Sad state of affairs which the Nepali government should have taken steps to prevent.
