2011-05-19 (cited from peopledaily.com.cn) -- The per capita monthly income of the officers of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) has reached 5,373.14 yuan (about US$ 832) as of the end of 2010, and the per capita monthly income of a PLA officer' family is 2637.62 yuan, according to a recent sampling survey on PLA officers and their families.
The survey indicates that the growth rate of per capita monthly income of PLA officers and their families has reached the highest level since 1949.
The sampling survey system began in 1996, and is conducted every two years. The general headquarters of the PLA conducts a sampling survey on families of PLA officers in active service below the division level from October 2010 to March 2011. The survey adopted some major indicators of these families in December 2010, including basic conditions, income and expenses, debts and savings as well as spouse's employment and special expenses.
In addition, the survey covered a wide range of PLA officers in different regions who hold different posts and ranks as well as carry out different tasks.
With the steady improvement of the family income of PLA officers, their consumption level has increased and their durable consumer items need to be replaced by new ones. The survey shows that during the end period of the 11th Five-Year Plan, the per capita monthly expenses on PLA officers' household equipment and articles have reached 176.33 yuan. Meanwhile, their living conditions have been improved greatly and their household income level has been enhanced.
In terms of the survey result, major contradictions still exist in PLA officers' families, such as their spouses' low employment rate and low quality of employment, having big household special expenses, and having lower living indicators than the average level of urban families.
As for these problems, a leader of the PLA explained that PLA officers' salary and welfare funds will be further readjusted and improved during the 12th Five-Year Plan.
