ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Raza Rabbani on Wednesday said the ruling elite of the country is unable to see the harsh realities of life.

He expressed these views while addressing the launching ceremony of his book "Invisible People".

"These realities spread in the society have compelled me to write about the miseries of the depressed and suppressed invisible people of the society."

National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, ministers, parliamentarians and people from different walks of life attended the event.

He regretted that he had no news to share today with the media for the reason that he would talk about the characters of his short stories through the medium of literature. He said that as his characters of short stories were not news worthy rather their miseries were presented through the language of the literature which always reflected the realities of life.

The Senate chairman said that his characters, led him by holding his finger and had asked him to write their stories. He shared various stories from his book which included a story of a worker who was seriously ill but lying outside the hospital while his underage daughter was searching for a doctor. He was a worker who was very dear to the factory owner until he was running the wheel of his mill, however, the capitalist neither knows nor wants to know about his condition.

His life of love had been crushed under the poverty and miseries as if he could not have a right to love. He said this was actually the real Pakistan, where people were living.

He also discussed some of the characters of his other stories in the event which was presided by none but the "invisible people". The participants of the event were looking at the empty chairs at the stage. However, the host of the programme could see his invisible characters presiding over the event.

The event was addressed by various literati. Famous writer Mustansar Hussain Tarar was represented by Irum Gillani who read his message before the audience. In his message, Tarar said that he had gone through all the book and was of the view that the stories fulfilled the criteria of a true short story.

Senator Taj Haider, Dr Safeer Awan, Ghazi Salahuddin, Masood Ashar and Afrasiab Khattak also addressed the ceremony.
