Highest dam at 272m? Do they mean highest in terms of dam height or in terms of location w.r.t. sea level?
I would go for the former as the location height is couple of thousand meters above the sea level.
The nearby Shandur Pass is 3738m above sea level.

Then there is something wrong as the tallest one is a chinese dam which is over 300m high. But the dam type is different. Maybe this one is the highest in "gravity dam" category.

@Neo, check out the quality of journey man pictures documentary,

Well on the birght side this industry provides jobs, so less youth will participate in crime and less youth will be available for agencies who recruit terrorism.

This is an industry that china and to some extent India has already dealt with, it creates quite a lot of pollution and health hazard but for a developing country health and pollution are not such a high on prority

This is one of those sector that helps economy of Pakistan but it's not accounted in.

Thanks for sharing the video and raising the issue. China, India and Pakistan are all parties to the Basel Convention, which means that more enforcement is needed. Whereas our neighbors have dealt with the situation to some extent, no such laws have been passed in Pakistan yet. IIRC the govt is working on it since 2013 when the issue was presented in the parliament.

I have visited the Lyari slum couple of times and the ship breaking industry in Gaddani. The conditions are indeed as primitive as shown in the video. The only awareness to hazardous metals and gasses is brought to the attention of the locals by several NGO's and health and environment organisations working under the US umbrella.

That (above) sure looks a lot like the Hoover Dam (below). Good job.

It is the Hoover dam indeed. The Diamer-Bhasha damis still in early stages of constructuon. Pics of the location, design and some construction work are available on google. The OP doesnt claim the pic to be the actual DB dam.

Please take note of the constant trolling and baiting by @thethinker in this thread. He is on my ignore list, I only get to see his posts when tagged.

The smallest amount of development in Pakistan seems to give him sleepless nights and constipation, he has never contributed to constructive debate. His job is restricted to trolling, tagging in-house trolls and collecting garbage to post in every Pakistan related thread.

You have set up and revived moderation rules and brought them to our attention recently inorder to increase quality of the forum. Please keep an eye on trolling in this section.

Try your victimhood posturing elsewhere. @Neo

Calling out you posting disinformation, fake images and false equivalency as per whatever crappy ISPR/ISI playbook you follow isn't trolling . Try your parlor tricks and impress friends in your madarsa infested Pakland, over here you will be mocked for that every time.

Mods - do note that this particular Paki poster posts total crap from local fake Paki news sites and blends it to pass it off as credible.

So much deception.

Nowhere in the original news source does it mention the image as of representation only or credited to Hoover dam.

In fact, the end of article states " Detailed drawings of the dam were completed by March 2008."

The photo posted is of Hoover Dam though.

Nice job!

Why don't you look at it in positive note?
Mods and Admins follow their own rules. Their tolerance of your trolls must be the sign you are trying to ignore.

There is big shift in Indian policy in dealing with Pakistan. You need to get used to it.
Bombing our cities one day and talking with us like nothing happened. Those days are over.

Our current generation baying for your blood. Get it first, before becoming causality.

Industry Sector projected growth in FY17
Posted By: News Deskon: August 01, 2016

ISLAMABAD (APP): The Industrial sector of the country is expected to grow at 7.7 percent during the ongoing fiscal year 2016-17 compared to the growth of over 6.4 per cent during the fiscal year 2015-16.

“In view of its higher growth rate during the current fiscal year (against last year’s growth rate), the industrial sector is expected to grow by 7.7 per cent during 2016-17 on the back of better energy supply and planned investment under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC),” official sources said.

The mining and quarrying sector is projected to grow by 7.4 per cent while the manufacturing sector is expected to grow by 6.1 per cent for 2016-17, the LSM’s growth rate of 5.9 per cent, small and household manufacturing 8.2 per cent, construction by 13.2 per cent and electricity, generation and gas distribution by 12.5 per cent.

Several energy-related fast-track projects under the CPEC are expected to be completed in the next fiscal year, the sources added.

The LSM growth will also go up with the ongoing construction activities, infrastructure projects and improved energy supply with the import of the LNG and LPG and completion of early harvest energy projects under the CPEC.

Moreover, the aggregate demand is expected to be maintained, provided that the remittances keep flowing while the exploitation and exploration of huge mineral deposits of iron, coal, copper and gold will further boost the industrial sector.

Demand for housing is also on the rise and both public and private sectors are working on housing schemes and these schemes are expected to result in increase in demand for cement and iron, substantially.

Overall, it is expected that improved energy availability, better law and order situation, lower interest rate with the subdued inflation and continued macroeconomic stabilization will play a major role in achieving the next year’s target of industrial growth.

It is pertinent to mention here that growth of the GDP for 2016-17 is targeted at 5.7 per cent with contributions from agriculture (3.5 per cent), industry (7.7 per cent) and services (5.7 per cent).
