If you earnestly want to make India develop, then there is one thing which needs to be addressed at the core.

Abolish the quota system in job and education sector. Instead of quota based on caste, creed and religion, implement the same at grass root level in education. Give financial support to financially week population to have compulsory education. Compulsory education shouldn't be age bounded. One should have atleast Secondary education along with Primary as compulsory. No quota should be there in taking admission into higher education. There should be scholarship to certified financially week pupils.

When you do this, the so called dalit brigades like Kanhaiya would be out of scenarios and the various movements for reservations by like of Hardik would cease to exist and the way to development would be paved.

My brother, your almost points were considered by GoI already.
Can you bring some new masala?
:p
1)Total change of business laws..they should be simple and crystal clear..
Happening, India already 10 ranks up.in ease of doing business.
PM Modi has pledged to.bring India into top 50 from current 125 in ease of doing business.
2)Different taxation for different industries..
But same for all states. This will attract more companies. Already done with GST Bill, will be implemented in 2017.
3)Fastest movement of goods from production to consumption be it goods or agri produce
$300 billions freight corridor project, world's biggest road, highway, motorway, wateray and Rapid Transport projects are underway.:first:
4)Hitting imports with high customs duty...and tax incentives for export companies
Wrong, India just needs an anti.dumping law against low quality goods. Banning goods will affect economy's consumption and exports. It will ne worse thing when China will take us to WTO after USA did.
5)Lots of un-organised market is in india make it organised..it will generate more tax
6)Public projects should be finished in time and within budget..
Agreed but it was already discussed and work is in progress.

As per the Global Gender Gap Index 2016,
India is ranked 87th out of 144th, significantly up from last year, likely rank for a third world country. Ironically, India.is ahead of Sri Lanka (100th) but behind Bangladesh (72nd). United States is interestingly ranked 45th!

Iceland and Norway are leaders meanwhile Yemen and Pakistan are laggards.

By 2030, India will lead world in almost every category: Richard Verma
US Ambassador to India Richard Verma was interacting with students of IIT and IIM at the Government Engineering College in Raipur.
Expressing confidence that by 2030 India would lead the world in "almost every category", US Ambassador to India Richard R Verma on Tuesday said people are excited about the Indo-US partnership which is poised to strengthen further.
"I look out into the future in India...just take 2030. By 2030, India will lead the world in almost every category... You will have the most people, largest middle class population, college graduates, patent holders, massive investment in infrastructure, urbanisation and discoveries," he said while interacting with the students of IIT and IIM at the Government Engineering College in Raipur.
"That's why people are so excited about India's rise and what's happening here. That's why I am excited about the partnership we have with you (India)...we can't agree on every issue, but we can get really a lot of important things done," he added.
Verma termed the last two years as the best period in the relationship between the two countries. He said US President Barack Obama wants India to be a strong, prosperous and a successful global power.
"We changed, India has changed...We were on two separate tracks for many a decade. Those tracks are now coming together. If you ask (US) president about how he feels about India, he would say he wants India to be strong and prosperous," he said.
Speaking about various fronts on which both the countries have collaborated and succeeded, he stressed that the two countries broke records in several categories last year.
"We had the highest two-way trade between the two countries ever of USD 110 billion. US was the largest export market for India. About 1.1 million visitors from India travelled to the US and equally, one million Americans visited India last year which was an all-time high. Last year, 1.40 lakh Indian students were studying in America. The highest defence trade number last year was USD 15 billion," he said.
Verma, however, said the two countries can do a lot more on peace, prosperity, climate change, defence and strategic affairs which he feels will have big impact on people.
Expressing hope that the ties between the two nations, would strengthen, he said, "If I look ahead to the future, I'm really optimistic and really excited. I don't think our relationship (will be) on roller coaster. I don't see it going down, I only see it's going up."
He also noted that the visits of Prime Minister Narendra Modi have strengthened ties between the two countries. He quoted Modi's speech at the US Congress earlier this year, where the PM had said they have overcome the hesitation of history and India is on course of making the US its indispensable partner. The US envoy also stressed the role India and the US can play in ensuring peace and harmony in the world.
ON HIS ARUNACHAL VISIT:
On Monday, China had objected to Richard Verma's visit to Arunachal Pradesh and had said that any interference by Washington in the Sino-India boundary dispute will make it 'more complicated' and 'disturb' hard won peace at the border.
Talking about his Arunachal visit, Verma said, "Visit to Arunachal was terrific, we went there for Tawang festival. We are looking to incerase our trade and eco oppurtunities."
Well, for literal meaning India won't be number one in HDI, per capita income etc.. Instead, it will come close to world average and hence will lead in numbers being world's most populated country at that time, as I highlighted the text above. Similar advantage what China enjoys today.

India could shell out $12 billion for new fighter jets

India needs new fighter jets, and the world's leading manufacturers are lining up to provide them.
The South Asian nation's government has sent letters to several companies regarding a new fleet of military aircraft, to be jointly produced with local firms. A potential deal, according to experts, could be worth up to $12 billion.

"India is looking at paying $65 to $80 million per aircraft for 150 aircraft," says Ben Moores, a defense and aviation analyst at IHS Jane's. The country faces an elevated sticker price for the fighters because government rules require most of the manufacturing to take place in India.

The requirement, which is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Make in India" initiative, is believed to have been a roadblock in India's most recent military aircraft deal with France.

That deal, which originally called for French company Dassault to supply the Indian air force with 126 Rafale fighters, underwent lengthy negotiations due to disputes over the local production clause.

Under the final terms of the sale agreed by India and France last month, India will only get 36 jets.

Other companies appear more than ready to fill the gap. U.S. manufacturer Lockheed Martin and Sweden's Saab are the leading contenders.

"We are prepared to provide a solution under the 'Make in India' program," said Saab spokesman Sebastian Carlsson, who confirmed that the company has received the Indian government's letter.

Carlsson touted his company's deal to supply Brazil with its Gripen fighters as a blueprint for a potential agreement with India. Saab is transferring technology to local firms as part of the deal, and is even training Brazilian engineers.

It's "an example of the way we like to do business," Carlsson said. He added that Saab was preparing an official response to India's letter.

Lockheed Martin (LMT) has gone a step further, offering to make India the sole global manufacturing hub for its F-16 fighter if offered the deal.

"Exclusive F-16 production in India would make India home to the world's only F-16 production facility," said Abhay Paranjape, Lockheed's national executive for business development in India. "None of our competitors can offer that."

Paranjape said the company, which has received and responded to the government's letter, envisions "a joint venture model with Indian industry as prime owner."

While India appears to have begun the procurement process in earnest, past instances suggest a final deal — especially of the magnitude being discussed — will be anything but straightforward.

"There might be a strategic eagerness for modern aircraft but the reality is that bureaucratic hurdles and state owned industrial self-interest outweigh the requirement urgency," says Moores. "If India can sign a deal and make it stick that will be impressive in its own right."

I have identified 3 main points as core points.
1. Quota system should be removed once and for all in all states. At the same time, UCC should be implemented immidiately.
2. Stop college elections. Minimum 5 commandos should be stationed in each universitie and min. 3 in each college. They should be prepared to shoot as soon as they see any student getting violent or damaging property or ragging etc.
3. Try to develope a policy, so that, money should get divided among citigens as far as possible. Under no circumstances, 3-4% of top elites should hold county's majority wealth. Govt. should make sure it.

My $0.2

Get our processes transparent.
Half the front line officers don't themselves know what the actual processes are.
Eg : I know someone who drove from Singapore to Delhi. The biggest hassle he faced was crossing over into India. Officers giving conflicting instructions. "Aap ka ye paper kisne issue kiya, nahi wo to theek hai jo website keh raha hai par hum ye keh rahe hai ki.... arre aap pehle immigration office me jaiye, nahi aapko pehle customs jana chahiye, arre apne ye form nai bhara"
I was following a series on YouTube about these two guys sailing across the world reaching the Andamans. Let's say they did not have a very good first impression of India. These guys wasted many days to get through immigration, again through the front line guys not knowing what to do.
These are symptomatic of a larger systemic short coming.
Sort out these issues out n see how not only tourism but the general ease of dealing with the establishment improves dramatically. Which would spur commerce.

Take pride about made in India products, like for instance the British do about their products (rolls Royce etc). We must not need the white man to certify how good a made in India aircraft, car or a cricket tournament or yoga is.

Abolish taxes. Charge GST on both products n services but NO taxes on incomes.

Now taking a leaf out of the Singapore experience: Govt provides good quality housing for slum dwellers, with the title deed such that, it is on a interest free loan with the govt being the lender and the buyer can't sell till loan is paid off. Provide job through MNREGA, if buyer doesn't have a job, and get buyer to pay off from what he earns. This will instill a sense of purpose in millions of people and will have a cascading social and economic benefit.

Indian Navy scouting for corvettes under ‘Make in India’ banner
By:

PTI
| New Delhi |

Published:November 1, 2016 4:56 pm
The Indian Navy is scouting for seven “next generation” heavily armed Corvettes that will come as a boost to the domestic industry since it will be a ‘Make in India’ project running into several thousand crore of rupees. Private shipyards like the Reliance Defence and Engineering Limited (RDEL) are likely to respond to the navy’s Request for Information (RFI) along with state-run shipyards. “We will be pitching for it strongly. We have made different types of warships in our shipyard and we are the only ones to have delivered earlier than schedule,” Chairman and Manging Director of Goa Shipyard, Rear Admiral Shekhar Mital (Retd) told PTI.

The corvettes will be capable of carrying out surface-to-surface missile attacks, anti-submarine warfare operations, and the navy wants the ships to be delivered from 2023. While the exact value of the project is yet to be determined since it all depends on the kind of weapon platform that will be on board, sources said it is safe to assume that each corvette would cost about Rs 1,500 to Rs 1,800 crore. The criteria for the new vessels are largely similar to the Khukri-class boats they will replace — 4,000 nautical mile range, maximum and sustained top speeds of 25-27 knots.

The 120-meter-long single hull corvettes, or small warships, will have low radar, acoustic, magnetic, visual and infra-red signatures. The ships should able to carry a minimum of 8 surface-to-surface missiles and engage sea-skimming missiles, flying 3-5 metres above sea level, upto maximum speed of Mach 3 (three times the speed of sound). Active towed array sonar, two light-weight torpedo launchers should be on board fitted to the corvettes, a navy document says.

There are at present at least 45 ships and submarines under construction in India. India has already built four anti-submarine warfare corvettes under Project-28, the first of which was handed over to the navy in 2014. This was built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd.

Army to have Russian T-90 tanks with Make in India element as Pakistan threat looms large

The Indian Army plans to buy 464 advanced T-90 battle tanks from Russia for deployment on its western borders with Pakistan.

The Rs 13,448-crore contract will include a Make-in-India element for integration at the Heavy Vehicles Factory in Avadi near Chennai.

The 10 new regiments of T-90MS tanks, equipped with thermal imaging night sights to allow the tank commander to hit at enemy locations even during night battles, will strengthen army's fire power along the land border stretch with Pakistan-from Jammu in north till the western flank in Gujarat.

LATEST TANKS TO TACKLE HEIGHTENED THREAT

"We are planning to procure the latest variants which would be deployed to tackle the heightened threat on the western front," highly-placed sources in the army told Mail Today.

Modalities of the proposal have been cleared by the army at the top level and would be soon placed for approval before Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar-led Defence Acquisition Council, the sources said.

India has already inducted 18 regiments of T-90 tanks which are deployed in Rajasthan and Punjab against on the Pakistan front.

However, the Indian Army's 4000-strong tank fleet has been battling with night blindness in the past and these new tanks would help in doing away with that, the sources said.

In addition it was found that key systems like the missile-firing mechanism and thermal sights had deteriorated due to prolonged exposure to heat and dust. This was pointed out in a recent comptroller and auditor general report. The Defence Ministry has decided to sort out the issues in addition to the radiators as the locally-produced equipment was creating problems in field operations, the sources said.

THE T-90 TANKS

The T-90 has emerged as the main battle tank of the Indian Army and is replacing the older variants of T-72 and T-55 tanks in the force.

India has about 850 T-90 tanks currently and plans to induct 1,657 by the year 2020.

The target of almost doubling the fleet in next three to four years seems a difficult task because the procurements were stuck due to issues related to escalating cost and local production.

The tanks are considered to be most advanced in the Indian inventory as they are equipped with sophisticated state-of-theart systems being produced in the country but they did not have air conditioners.

The Army initiated the process to buy ACs to be fitted in the tanks. To meet the challenges on the western front, the government also recently cleared acquisition of missiles and ammunition for these tanks under the fast-track acquisition process.

INDIA GOING BACK TO RUSSIA?

India's defence ties with Russia have been more than 60 years old and New Delhi was heavily dependent on Moscow for military hardware as it provided over 70 per cent supplies to the forces.

In recent years, the America and European sources have moved in to replace Russian equipment but the ties were rekindled recently.

India has now been showing an inclination to go back towards Russian defence buys with a deal worth Rs 39,000 crore in the pipeline to purchase five S-400 Triumf air defence missile systems which can engage enemy aircraft at 400 km.

During the recent visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin, India also signed a yet-to-bepriced agreement for joint manufacturing of 200 Kamov light helicopters which would be used by the army at high-altitude areas of Siachen and Ladakh for maintaining forward bases.

The mainstay of Indian Air Force is also the Su-30MKI combat aircraft- 272 of which are being procured from Russia.

Development only way to solve India’s problems: PM Modi
Modi said the Centre will not discriminate among states in providing funds for development.
BY: PTI | RAIPUR |Published On:November 1, 2016 9:21 PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today made a strong pitch for development saying it is the only way to solve the problems that India is facing and urged state governments and local governing bodies to work in tandem to make the country poverty-free. He also said skilled youth can pull themselves out of poverty and help fuel the engine of growth.
“Development in all spheres is the one and only way to solve the problems faced by the country. In the states wherever we are getting an opportunity, and in the country, we are trying hard to move ahead on the path of development with full commitment. The full stress of our government is on uplift of poor,” he told a gathering on the opening ceremony of Chhattisgarh Rajyotsav – the 16th foundation day celebrations at Naya Raipur.
Pitching for empowerment of the poor, he said, “The Centre, states, municipalities and panchayats should work together to eradicate poverty. We have to work shoulder-to- shoulder to tackle the menace.” He said the Centre is observing 2016 which is Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay’s birth centenary year as Garib Kalyan Varsh for the uplift of the poor.
Linking skilling with his ‘Make in India’ initiative, the prime minister said people with sufficient skills can help boost the country’s economy. “Poor youth with sufficient opportunities, training, skills and tools can pull themselves and others out of poverty,” he said.
He pointed out the government’s initiative on skill development that is helping youths to enhance their capability and skill. “The country has large youth population. They have immense power and if they get opportunity they can change the world. Making them, particularly the poor, skilled will help them shape their future and enhance their dignity,” he said.
On the issue of Centre-state relations, Modi said the government believes in cooperative federalism, where states compete with each other in implementing new schemes. “The Centre wants a healthy competition among the states in the areas of development and better performance, assuring that his government is committed to support and encourage each and every state for their development,” he said.
He also said the Centre will not discriminate among states in providing funds for development. Underlining the importance of value addition for the economic development of farmers in the country, he said, “The Centre wants the farmers should get high production and better price for their produces. Besides, value addition can also helps the farmer in a great way. Chhattisgarh has taken up good initiatives that enable value addition for farmers.”
Talking about government schemes, Modi said, “The Centre and state governments run several schemes, but most people do not have information about them. Mothers don’t know about vaccination for their child due to illiteracy. In view of that, the Centre has launched ‘Mission Indradhanush’ Scheme to cover all the children, who were left out or missed out on immunisation, in every nook and corner.”
“Similarly, the Centre has floated Ujjwala scheme to empower women of poor household and protect their health. In the next three years, LPG connections will be provided under the scheme to five crore families,” he said, adding this scheme is purely meant to make the country poverty-free.
Referring to the new crop insurance scheme launched by the Centre, he said there is a need to make agriculture more viable so that even a small piece of land can yield more. Appreciating the concept of jungle safari he inaugurated here, he said states with ecotourism potential can help provide employment to a large section of people.
He said value addition to the produce of farmers was another way to help enhance their earning. During his visit to the jungle safari, Modi also clicked pictures of a tiger in the zoo.
Earlier in the day, he dedicated to people the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) developed under public transport service facility between Raipur and Naya Raipur.
Thereafter, he unveiled a statue of Jan Sangh idealogue Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay here and dedicated the two-km-long ‘Ekatm Path’ constructed between Naya Raipur railway station and Capitol Complex.
The Prime Minister also launched ‘Saur Sujala Yojana’ which aims to provide solar pumps to 51,000 farmers for irrigation in state.
Lauding Chief Minister Raman Singh for his development initiatives and schemes, he said states like Chhattisgarh, which have potential for ecotourism, can generate employment by investing little capital in its development.
“I visited jungle safari and Ekatma Path. Chief Minister (Raman Singh) was telling me about all these development projects… I see great scope for tourism in Chhattisgarh. It shows how a relatively smaller state which is Naxal-affected can achieve heights of development in a short span of time,” he said adding that its impact will benefit generations to come.
“At investment far less than what is required for setting up an industrial unit, concepts like jungle safaris can be big money spinners for small states like Chhattisgarh,” he said.
Modi said others indirectly involved with ecotourism like autorickshaw drivers, fruit sellers and ‘chai wallahs’ can enhance their earning.

Next mascot of ‘Incredible India’ is... Narendra Modi
Tourism Minister Mahesh Sharma thinks the Prime Minister is the "best face" to promote the campaign.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to be the mascot of the “Incredible India” campaign with the Tourism Ministry finally deciding to do away with plans to rope in any Bollywood stars, including Amitabh Bachchan, for the role which was lying vacant after the ouster of Aamir Khan earlier this year.

No Bollywood actor will be engaged for the campaign aimed at attracting foreign travellers and video footage of Mr. Modi during the last two-and-a-half years where he has talked about tourism in India and abroad, will be used for the campaign, a senior Ministry official said.

The Ministry is planning to use — for radio and audio release — two types of videos of different durations where Mr. Modi has talked about the uniqueness and diversity of the various places in the country, the official said.

At present, the Ministry is “working on selecting the footage”, the official said, adding that the campaign would be released in the next 40-45 days as the Indian ‘tourism season’ starts by November-end due to favourable weather as also the Christmas holidays and New Year celebrations.

The official said the process of selecting the agency, which will carry out the task of running the campaign, is also under process.

Earlier, Tourism Minister Mahesh Sharma had endorsed Mr. Modi’s persona for the role, saying he is the “best face” to promote the “Incredible India” campaign. He had asserted that the country has witnessed a jump in the tourists inflow from the countries the Prime Minister had visited.

He had said the Ministry need not have any Bollywood face for the campaign to attract tourists from overseas.

“The perception about India has changed significantly in the last two years with Prime Minister Modi visiting a host of countries during the period. So, who else could be a better face for Indian tourism than our Prime Minister,” Sharma had said.

Supporting Sharma’s remarks, a senior Ministry official said tourist inflows from countries such as the US, Germany, Fiji, Brazil, Australia, the UK, Canada and Myanmar, among others, has witnessed a significant jump after Mr. Modi’s visit to these nations.

Earlier the names of megastar Amitabh Bachchan and actress Priyanka Chopra were doing the rounds for the campaign aimed at promoting India as a favourite tourist destination abroad after actor Aamir Khan’s ouster as the campaign’s brand ambassador.

Though it was believed that Khan was eased out of the campaign in January after being associated with it for several years for his remarks on perceived intolerance, the Tourism Ministry had maintained that he was not hired by the government and that the contract with the advertising agency which engaged him had expired.

India's Adani & Israel's Elbit form JV for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

Adani Enterprises Ltd and Israel's Elbit Systems India Ltd have formed a joint venture company, Adani-Elbit Advanced Systems India Ltd (AEASIL), to manufacture unmanned aerial vehicles in India. While Adani group will own 51 percent stake in the JV, Israeli firm will hold the remaining stake.

The formation of the JV follows the statement of intent signed by Adani Aero Defence Systems & Technologies Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Adani Enterprises, with Elbit-ISTAR and Alpha Design Technologies in March this year to work together in the field of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) in India.

Unmanned aircraft systems are considered to be the next frontier of technology providing multi-functional capability especially that of see and hear to provide information advantage to the fighters and net security providers.

Elbit Systems Ltd is an international high technology company engaged in a wide range of defence, homeland security and commercial programmes throughout the world. The Israel-based company, which includes Elbit Systems and its subsidiaries, operates in the area of aerospace, land and naval systems, command, control, communications, computers, intelligence surveillance and unmanned aircraft systems.

MCMV Project A Good Example Of Make In India, Says Parrikar

The Phase 3A work of infrastructural modernization project of the Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), constructed at a cost of Rs. 400 crore with further Rs. 600 crore worth infrastructure being executed, will be completed in the next three years.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated Phase 3A of the project to the nation on Sunday and inaugurated the production of the Coast Guard Offshore patrol Vessel (CGOPV) project digitally.
The Prime Minister lauded all GSL projects, saying they would take the country towards self-reliance in the defence sector. He said it was an important step in the direction of ‘Make in India’, which was being taken to boost the maritime security.
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar told The Hindu on Sunday that this Phase 3A facility will be for the upcoming Mine Counter Measure Vessels (MCMV) project being implemented by GSL, amounting to Rs. 32,000 crore. The MCMV project is a good example of the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, where all the 12 vessels are being made locally in Goa, as against the earlier decision to make the first two ships abroad, the minister said.
He said the GSL has started construction of the CGOPV project at a cost of Rs.1,867 crore.
GSL has upgraded infrastructure at a cost of Rs.700 crore to meet the critical operational requirements of the Navy in the MCMV field. This infrastructure will enable construction of GRP-hull MCMVs for the first time in the country. This will be a unique facility available only in Goa and will put India in elite company of only five to six countries which boast of this facility in the world, a GSL spokesperson said on Monday.
The modernisation programme, once fully completed, will result augment GSL’s capacity to fabricate/construct steel, aluminum and GRP-hull vessels to nearly three times the present yard capacity, said the spokesperson.
All 12 vessels are being made locally in Goa, as against the earlier decision to make the first two ships abroad.

‘Russian Helicopters’ could localise Mi-17 production in India

If the Ka-226T helicopters, assembled in India, are successfully exported to neighbouring countries, the localised assembly model could be used for other helicopters as well.

Alexander Mikheev, CEO of the Russian Helicopters Holding company, (a Rostec member) does not rule out the possibility of localising production of the Mi-17 helicopters in India.

“At the moment, we have no plans to localise Mi-17 production in India, but we also do not rule out such a possibility in the future,” Mikheev said in an interview with the Indian blog Livefist.

He said if the Ka-226T helicopters, which will be assembled in India, are successfully sold in the markets of neighbouring countries, the localisation experience could be replicated for other models of helicopters.

Russia handed over the final batch of three Mi-17V-5 military transport helicopters to India in February this year, under a previously signed contract, which entailed a total of 151 helicopters, built by the Kazan Helicopter Plant, (part of the Russian Helicopters company). India also approved the purchase of 48 additional Mi-17V-5 helicopters.

The new helicopters are for use in operations in various sectors, including in the desert and in mountainous terrain.

Mi-17 military transport helicopters are among the most popular helicopters in their class. These helicopters were built incorporating a full-spectrum analysis of Russian helicopters' operation in combat situations and conflict zones. It is the universality and high flight capabilities of these helicopters that make them among the world's most popular Russian-made helicopters.

The latest Mi-8/17 military transport helicopter family includes the Mi-17V-5 (domestic designation Mi-8MTV-5) made at Kazan Helicopters and the Mi-171Sh (Mi-8AMTSh) made at Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant.

Mi-17V-5 (Mi-8MTV-5) and Mi-171Sh (Mi-8AMTSh) helicopters are designed to transport personnel, and for carrying cargo internally or on an external sling. They can be used for search and rescue operations, and can also be equipped with weapons.

India and Russia formally inked an agreement on October 15, 2016, to create a joint venture to produce Ka-226T helicopters in India. The agreement was part of the outcome of the Russia-India summit in Goa.

Signing the JV agreement marked a new stage of cooperation between Russia and India in the helicopter industry, first outlined in the intergovernmental agreement between Moscow and New Delhi in December 2015. The JV will become a pilot project for the Russian-Indian part of the “Make in India” programme.

"The joint venture is certainly a breakthrough project for us, because it fundamentally changes the model of our cooperation within the helicopter industry. For the first time we are ready to offer our deep localisation of helicopters, including the set up for production of various helicopter components and assemblies. I hope that the Ka-226T assembled in India has a great future in the world market," Russian Helicopters CEO Mikheev said in October.

"The joint venture for local production of Ka-226T is a profoundly new and substantial step in the development of cooperation between India and Russia. The fleet of Russian-made helicopters in India is over 400 units. But this is the first of such large-scale complex agreements for delivery and production of new helicopters in the amount of 200 units, which is fully in line with the Make in India initiative," said Sergei Chemezov, Rostec CEO. "In addition, over the next 5 years there will be facilities set up for maintenance and servicing of the produced helicopters. Therefore the agreement represents not just a contract for production but for full lifecycle support."

Under terms of the intergovernmental agreement, the joint Russian-Indian enterprise created by Russian Helicopters, JSC Rosoboronexport and India's HAL Corporation must arrange the localisation of production and supply of 200 light multirole Ka-226T for 9 years. The first 60 helicopters will be produced in Russia, while production of the remaining 140 helicopters is being planned in India.

In addition to the assembly, the agreement provides for maintenance, operation, repairs and technical support cooperation.
