Since its foundation in 1988, the Group's business has grown exponentially. Projections for the next few years suggest the expansion is set to continue.

The back-story to our success is the growth of India's middle class. Their demand for goods and services places an ever-growing demand on the nation's infrastructure, in terms of ports, power, water and transportation.

The Government has struggled to keep pace and, as a result, invited the private sector to contribute. The opening up of the energy and infrastructure markets is a huge opportunity for Adani. Our coal mining, cargo handling and power generation activities are projected to increase four to 10 fold over the next decade.

Resources

29.37 million MT in 2011

Number one coal importer in India
For years India has faced challenges in obtaining the natural resources necessary for growth. At Adani, we are well placed to help overcome those challenges.

We are developing and operating mines in India, Indonesia and Australia as well as importing and trading coal from many other countries. We also have extensive interests in oil and gas exploration.

Extractive capacity is scheduled to increase from 3 MMT of thermal coal in 2011 to 200 MMT per annum by 2020, making Adani one of the largest mining groups in the world.

Logistics

51.36 million MT in 2011

Number one private port in India
95% of India's international trade comes through its ports. The fastest growing ports are run privately like Mundra, which we own and operate.

Mundra benefits from deep draft, first-class infrastructure and SEZ status. It is connected via road, railway and pipelines to the economic heartlands of North and West India.

We are planning five other ports in India and Australia and aim to increase our annual cargo handling capacity from 52 MMT to 200 MMT by 2020.

Energy

4,620 MW capacity

Number one private thermal power producer in India
India's State enterprises have struggled to meet the rising demand for energy.

Estimates suggest that by 2020 the private sector will account for 40% of electricity generation, with Adani being the largest player; with eight plants and 20,000 MW capacity. This compares to our capacity of 4,620 MW at the start of 2012 and our expected capacity of 10,000 MW by the end of 2012.

Our coal mining and logistics operations place us in a commanding position. More than 75% of our electricity is pre-sold in long-term arrangements, leaving us free to trade the balance wherever the best profits are to be found.

Agro

4.82 million MT quantity handled in 2011
Number one edible oil brand in India
Alongside the group's core integrated infrastructure operations, Adani has interests in agribusiness through a joint venture with Wilmar of Singapore.

Adani Wilmar owns a highly successful range of cooking and baking products, including Fortune - India's largest selling edible oil brand.

We also operate agri storage facilities at our port at Mundra and other locations in India. It is another example of how expertise in one area can support initiatives in another.

am pleasantly surprised to learn that india is doing pretty well located up there with china in manufacturing competitiveness ...

how does the range of our products compare with theirs ? - i would expect that our range in rather limited compared to theirs ?

while india seems to be doing reasonably well in mfg of macro-type products , there seems to be a void when it comes to the higher-end technological products eg consumer electronics , tablets etc - infamously the akash tablet is still under commissioning trials - im not being sarcastic at all but i merely sincerely hope we can overcome these challenges - and i know typing behind a keyboard is childs play compared to even the simplest mfg so im not criticising at all .

over all - very well done by india - this thread should be supplememnted by suggestions of what india could do next and here are some ideas:-

1. consumer products - will involve higher tech - will take knowledge and prestige of India from the industry into the home - being a consumer product mfg expert is worth a thousand times better that aspiring for that UNSC seat !

2. improve marketing skills - india makes a very wide range of products - but really how many people know about it - after all it's individuals who become businessmen and company directors and if we dont know about Indian products , how do we connect with their companies ?

3. improve packaging and advertising - improve the image - this is an area where im sorry to realistically have to say india lags very far behind - so far that i honestly believe we cant at this time do it on our own - be realistic and realise that we need western USA experts to be employed by Indian companies to help spruce up the image of our products - the indian product are SOLID - the image and packaging in comparison is horrific

most grateful for your comments and additional ideas

Madam, please go through this thread from the very first post, you will then find that no industry is untouched from India. whether Space Research (rank/achievement etc, check), whether shipping industries, car/manufacturing, from a large size industries to Ac/fridge/TV etc manufacturing all.....

you will find all in this thread. but we do know that China is in 'fit' competition with East Asian Nations right now, its a truth, and hence you have to now think to compete with East Asian Nations now, if you want to come to the level of China, the facts. CHina is now beating them even on the side of high tech products, India too is doing but not enough....... China is at the distance of around 5 to 8 years from India, and India can catch up with China only when it may come in the position to beat South Korea/ Taiwan type countries, say in 10 years, even if you can't match with Japan/Singapore in near future. and if you can't achieve this target then you do need to know that China is going to do so within this time frame

Welcome to Cochin Shipyard : ISO 9001 Certified Shipyard of the Millenium

Cochin Shipyard was incorporated in the year 1972 as a fully owned Government of India company. In the last three decades the company has emerged as a forerunner in the Indian Shipbuilding & Shiprepair industry. This yard can build and repair the largest vessels in India. It can build ships upto 1,10,000 DWT and repair ships upto 1,25,000 DWT. The yard has delivered two of India's largest double hull Aframax tankers each of 95,000 DWT . CSL has secured shipbuilding orders from internationally renowned companies from Europe & Middle East and is nominated to build the country's first indigenous Air Defense Ship.
Welcome to Cochin Shipyard : ISO 9001 Certified Shipyard of the Millenium

Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) is the largest ship building and maintenance facility in India. The yard has facilities to build vessels up to 1.1 Million tons and repair vessels up to 1.25 Million tons, the largest such facilities in India. CSL is also building the Indian Navy's first indigenous Vikrant class aircraft carrier.

=> Antony wants indigenous aircraft carrier delivered soon

Cut up over long delay in the construction schedule of India's first indigenous aircraft carrier (IAC), being built in his home State of Kerala at the Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), Defence Minister A. K. Antony on Tuesday asked all the stakeholders to work together and make efforts for an early delivery of the warship.

Upset over frequent delays on one account or the other, Mr. Antony told a high-level review meeting in New Delhi that henceforth accountability would be fixed for any further slippages in the ambitious national project. "We cannot go one hearing about excuses. Henceforth accountability will be fixed in case of slippages in the construction of the warship which is a national project," he said.

Mr. Antony's observations came at a meeting held at the Defence Ministry to review the progress of the construction of the IAC at Cochin Shipyard. The meeting was attended by the Minister of State in Defence Ministry Jitendra Singh, Navy Chief Admiral D.K. Joshi, Defence Secretary Shashikant Sharma and senior officials of the CSL.

The 40,000-tonne IAC was to be inducted into the Navy by 2014-15 but the delay will push back the proposed induction to 2018 as well as escalating the total cost of the project. The meeting noted that most of the teething problems of the project have been sorted out. The supply of two gear boxes of the warship has also been arranged, the meeting was informed.

Mr. Antony said an Empowered Committee has been formed under the Defence Secretary which would constantly monitor the progress in the IAC. The Minister also asked the CSL to give a firm date of induction of the carrier at the earliest.

Sources in the ministry said that a proposal would be sent to the Finance Ministry and the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) for improving the flow of funds for the project launched in 2009. Mr. Antony had told Parliament in August that the complexity of the project and it being the first ship of its kind being built in India, has led to timelines being extended.

The IAC is to be christened INS Vikrant after the country's first aircraft carrier which was decommissioned in 1997. With the sole aircraft carrier INS Viraat being stationed in Kochi for a check and regular maintenance and delivery of INS Vikramaditya being delayed further by a year, Indian Navy's plans to have two operational aircraft carriers has taken a hit. India also has a 65,000-tonne IAC-II on the drawing board but the delay in IAC-I have derailed it.

Russians Discuss Future Carrier Plans, Eyeing India

A MiG-29KUB factory development prototype made a successful landing on the deck of the INS Vikramaditya aircraft carrier on July 28, according to Russian Aircraft ("MiG"). The Indian carrier is undergoing sea trials in the Barents Sea after modernization and refit from its previous life as a Soviet heavy cruiser. Test pilots Mikhail Belyaev and Nikolai Diorditsa were at the controls for the first landing, and a few days later they performed the first takeoff from the carrier and then made a second successful deck landing.

The successful MiG landing and other progress in the open-sea trials of the Vikramaditya have encouraged the Russians to approach the Indian MoD with a proposal to build an all-new aircraft carrier in Russia for the Indian navy. The vessel would be built at the same Sevmash shipyard at Severodvinsk that reworked the Vikramaditya. The new ship, however, would have nuclear or gas-turbine propulsion. The Vikramaditya's water boilers run on diesel.

The Nevskoye design bureau in St. Petersburg has been working on a next-generation carrier for the Russian navy since 2005. It has already produced several design proposals and submitted them to the Russian navy for assessment. It is believed that the new carrier on offer to India will be based on one of these proposals. Construction would take between seven and 10 years, according to Andrei Diachkov, president of Russia's United Shipbuilding (OSK). He further stated that OSK is ready to assist India in the indigenous construction of aircraft carriers, through a joint venture being established between Russian and Indian shipbuilders.

However, a high-ranking source in the Russian navy said that that service wants a ship "a lot more advanced than the one on offer" from Nevskoye. The Russian navy's "dream" carrier would be armed with advanced self-defense systems able to intercept high-flying targets, including low-orbiting satellites. It should also have "underwater capability," the source said, hinting at the ability of the carrier to carry advanced manned or unmanned submersible vessels. The navy expects the Nevskoye design house to complete the draft design of an advanced ship in 2014, then issue production documentation in time for Sevmash to begin construction in 2020.

In late July, newly appointed Russian navy commander Admiral Victor Chirkov confirmed that "money [to prepare] for the construction of such ships has been allocated." However, he also said then that the current Russian Armament Program 2011-2020 does not include the construction of such ships and that a decision on the program has not been made yet. By 2020, he added, the MoD will be spending its money on construction of smaller-displacement ships and modernization of older nuclear-powered cruisers.
