India behaving like mature power in Doklam standoff: US expert

India is "behaving like a mature power" in the Doklam standoff in the Sikkim section and making China look like an adolescent throwing a tamper tantrum, a top American defence expert has said.

India and China have been locked in a face-off in the Doklam area for the last 50 days after Indian troops stopped the Chinese People's Liberation Army from building a road in the area.

Praising India's behaviour over the matter, James R Holmes, professor of strategy at the prestigious US Naval War College, said, "New Delhi has done things right thus far, neither backing away from the dispute nor replying in kind to Beijing's over-the-top rhetoric."

"It is behaving as the mature power and making China look like the adolescent throwing a temper tantrum," Holmes said.

Holmes said it was 'weird' that China wanted to keep alive a boundary dispute with its most formidable neighbour.

"If China wants to pursue an assertive maritime strategy, it needs secure borders on land so it doesn't have to worry about overland aggression from its neighbours," Holmes said.

"In other words, confronting India in the Himalayas is not a purely rational course of action driven by rational cost/benefit analysis," said the professor from the US Naval War College.

When asked why the US has remained silent so far on this issue, he said the current administration has too much on its plate.

"It's also possible Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi and his advisers don't want the United States involved in a Himalayan dispute it has little way of influencing. If the dispute escalates, chances are Washington will come out in support of New Delhi," Holmes said.

The Han race are really making a fool of itself in the eyes of the world. The Chinese need to be kicked out as a permanent member of the Security Council as they are unfit to sit on the high table due to their childish, immature and irrational behavior that's pissing off everyone.

If we do a preemptive strike, we would be the starter of this war. Now India for sure doesn't want this.
If we read at the ground that war has become inevitable. Then striking pre-emptive is the logical thing to do. Loosing advantage is a folly in art of war.

About perceptions it doesn't matter who started war only who wins. The countries who have disputes with china will remain anti-china regardless of what we do or don't. Same for anti - India countries.

The important things for us to hold the ground any how. We can always blame chinese for firing first. And historians can keep debating it for decades to come.

Our righteousness didn't help us in 62. Only victory will do.

We cannot do the first shot, We are waiting for their first round, mortar to be fired ..

The end must have a political end ..

Exactly brother....We cannot afford 2 lose the trust of international community...If we clearly observe, not a single media outlet or source is allowed 2 report the ground situation...The reason is the chinkese ideology of using our own media for its propaganda warfare...So,we have had the advantage till now coz we r silent and in defensive posture(atleast d world sees so)....We must not fire the first round... Sympathy is also a strategy according to Chanakya Neeti.

Look at the rate of fire, Enemy will feel mini MBRL pounding ..

Of-course the round are illumination, during any battle it could be easily HE..
If such rate of fire is sustained for 15 minutes by 4-6 mortar guns, then even allah and even their Prophet will feel helpless and will pray to god.

Their coordination is amazing.

The silver lining to this standoff is that it has happened under the present govt.

These Chinese are double tongued - for weaker nations they will use economic intimidation and cheque book diplomacy (giving loans that can't be repaid and then gobbling up territory) while for stronger nations they use military threats.

They also keep rejecting treaties that are not favourable to them while trying to bully and take advantage of those treaties that are beneficial to them.

If this standoff would not have ensued, a decade or two down the line, Chinese would have been even more assertive regarding Tibet and Arunachal Pradesh and be a bigger pain in the ass.

They anyway need to be dealt with strongly so that they stop issuing stapled visas.

Thimpu (Bhutan), July 02 (ANI): As the tension between China and Bhutan is on the rise, the Chinese Army has started constructing a motorable road from Dokola in the Doklam area towards the Bhutan Army camp at Zompelri. Expressing their views on the matter, Chundu singye, a local of Thimpu said that China’s activity at border lines is very risky and they are encouraging a war. While, Tsheltrim Dorji, a Bhutanese student believes that China, India, Bhutan should come together and take out a solution. Many of the people cherished India and Bhutan’s relation, however they also expressed the concern over China’s activity. They stated that Bhutan is a small country and what China is doing it is not appropriate.

In remarks that must be very reassuring to India, Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay has ruled out the possibility of his government permitting China to open its embassy in Thimpu. "There is no question of Chinese embassy in Bhutan, Mr Tobgay told NDTV a day after Narendra Modi concluded his first-ever foreign visit as India's new Prime Minister. There have been concerns in India over China's attempts to establish

not just UK, bro.. Himachal, Leh Ladhak, Sikkim, Darjeeling, Arunachal ... they all are border state with population and first line of defence.
That's what i told you brother that the matter of concern is that people from frontier villages are migrating due to lack of Jobs and this is the major concern for the govt and army. I am not blaming the people. You can even google this news.

This said, there is a legend of 1962 war when coy of 4 Garhwal was attacked by Chinese locals including the women help the Battalion fighting Chinese , apart from general assistance to the army.

And i am telling you by my personal experience Since majority of friends and classmates are Garhwali and Kumaoni
