one has to notice this point that striker cannot fit into C-130J if striker is fitted with mess like structure around the tank ,which saves it from incomming RPGs

seriously IA should talk to TATA and add high capacity engine, armour and gun on TATA nano, that will be cheap and better option then to go around the world and at the end nothing would happen due to corruption in defence deal.

You mean to say the Slat armour?... well let me tell you one thing they are detachable. You can fix it and remove it whenever you want.

The Type 62 light tank(basically a smaller type 59 MBT)

The Norinco Type 62 is a Chinese light tank developed in the early 1960s and is based on the Chinese Type 59 with a reduced main gun caliber, lighter armour and a smaller suite of electronics and other equipment to help reduce weight. The Type 62 is still used by the Chinese People's Liberation Army Ground Forces and other nations. It has recently been upgraded to modern standards and provides the PLA with a dedicated light tank. It is also known under its industrial designation, WZ132.[1][2]

Pahhard AML H90

The Panhard AML( called the AML 245 by Panhard) 60/90 is a light armoured car with permanent 4x4 drive which gives it exceptional mobility. It can carry either a 90 mm quick firing low pressure gun, or a 60 mm breech loading mortar as main weapons. Night vision equipment provides effective night time operations, and it is provided with an excellent telecommunications system.

During the Fifties, the French Army used the Daimler Ferret in large numbers. They decided build their own armoured car and Panhard started the production of the AML in 1960. Since then over 4000 vehicles were built and manufacture continues for export. The AML 60/90 have been exported to over 30 countries. 1300 AML 60/90 was also built under licence by South Africa under the name of Eland 60/90.

An APC (armoured personnel carrier) version was also developed, the Panhard M3 and the AML share 95% of working parts which caused many contries chose both the M3 and the AML to cut financial and logistic costs.

Variants
AML with H 90 turret
This model is fitted with an H 90 turret manufactured by Hispano-Suiza and is armed with a Giat Industries 90 mm D 921 F1 gun which fires HEAT, HE, smoke and canister rounds.

A 7.62 mm coaxial machine gun is mounted to the left of the main armament and a similar weapon, or a 12.7 mm (0.50) machine gun, can be mounted on the roof for anti-aircraft defence. Two smoke grenade dischargers mounted on either side of the turret are electrically fired from within the vehicle.

To provide more mobile fire support, Ethiopia has removed the turrets from some of its AML-90 armoured cars and fitted these onto the Russian BTR-60 (8 x 8) series of armoured personnel carrier.

AML with Lynx 90 turret
This replaced the AML with H 90 turret in production and has the same armament as the H 90 turret but can be fitted with passive night vision equipment, a laser range-finder and powered traverse.

Instead of light tanks, we should rather purchase advanced attack choppers for CAS operations in inhospitable terrain...... our road infrastructure is pretty poor near the Chinese border anyway..... and tanks are just sitting ducks in face of an attack chopper in this kind of terrain...

What do you mean by "tanks are just sitting ducks in face of an attack chopper in this kind of terrain"? AFAIK Indian army wants them for mountain areas or North and North-east border area, which is Himalaya. The choppers will be much more vulnerable in that terrain than in western desert because of the terrain. Because hills and mountains will provide much more natural cover, and the choppers would be much easier to hit by MANPADS. Also, the choppers would be carrying far less armament in that height.

Besides, the tanks that are required won't perform CAS role. It will stay and fight, and deny the enemy ground. The assault helicopters may cause havoc among enemy lines, but it can't stay and fight. And about the road infrastructure - that's why they are light tanks - they could be slow to reach to position, but they would. Just suppose in a scenario when the enemy also will face the same problem after crossing the front. There they would be far too deep into our territory to call in air-support or CAS support , as well their advance will be slower. And Indian troops can call in CAS support far readily than the enemy, so if the tanks take a stand and halt the enemy advance for even a little time. The enemy could be pinned down and could be given a heavy enough blow that enemy would rue their intrusion!

Indian Army is not an organization of fools, so when they decide to procure something they know they need that.

You would still need tanks and infantry to protect and defend the airfields thse choppers would take off from.as has already been demonstrated by the mujahideen attacks against soviet gunships ; the chopper is extremely vulnerable in mountains as the geography provides ample cover for the OPFOR to launch MANPADS ; light tanks alone are also vulnerable to Modern anti-tank missiles. Only a combination of both assets can be successful.

Tanks have played a a integral part of War ever since the British introduced them in the World War I as a means to break the deadlock of trench warfare.

Time made them more robust & agile & this is one machine whose role in War cannot be deemed to be obsolete.

Against Russian airbourne BMD-4, helicopters are the ones who are vulnerable. With a high elevation 30mm autocannon and lazer guided missiles, I would rather be in that in a fire dual with a medium class gunship. Airbourne vehicles can go anywhere, anytime, and cross any terrain. Whatever logistics you need can be airdropped.

well we need light tanks as well as attack helicopters to be ultra effective ,light tanks for anti personale role as well as anti bunker busting and attack helicopter for CAS roles . soviet gunships were very sucessfull in soviet afghan war ,they were known as " SATAN Chariot " had much scyological fear .
