The so called Imperial Japan Navy had been already sunk to the bottom of Pacific Ocean by Yankees decades ago, buddy.

Testing the automatic fire suppression on deck, a less well known but equally important part of a modern carrier.

Someone should edit the thread title. The Shi Lang designation is still nothing more than an unverified rumor.

Simple, India was not able to turn an empty AC hull into an operational AC on its own and Russia would give you a hand only if India bought a Russian AC.

This Russian aircraft-carrier boat had a strange story. When it was being built it was called "Riga" – the name of Latvian capital city, but just after the construction was over and 20 minutes later the ceremony of the ship's launching started they got a call from Moscow demanding to change the name to "VARYAG", probably just because at that time Latvia demanded independence, so Russian government understood that if they leave the old name, in just a few months one of their top-ships would carry the name of the capital of the another state. So they called and changed the name same day the boat was launched. That was a bad sign.

A few years later, they couldn't maintain it anymore, and the ship itself demanded some sort of upgrading so they decided to"¦ sell it for iron-and-steel scrap! The company which bought it couldn't transport it to scrap site, mainly because Turkey didn't allow the private company to pass the big and scary aircraft-carrier through its waters it in time so it stayed for one and a half year and they seriously considered on abandoning it. Later they got permission from Turkey and moved it from the Black Sea to the Mediterranean Sea. And then in Mediterranean it has almost got stuck on sandbank. So it took it a few years to come to travel in its the last journey.

The best source you got is an entertainment blog?

English Russia is a daily entertaiment blog devoted to the events happening in Russian speaking countries, such as Russia (Russian Federation), Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Kazakhstan, etc. Everyday something interesting happens in the countries occupying 1/6 of the populated world. We are here to inform you about it.

Amusing, but hardly a good source.

easy ...questioning the source is quite reasionable...many others did, we couldn't lable this as Trolling( I found too many trolling accuse recently) ...and that report is quite BS indeed

and less double standard here please...your people are so proud of your right of free talking ,aren't you?
----------------------------------------------------

Ukrain planned to sell it to Russia first since 1991...but Russian is lack of funds at that moment...

a chinese company registered in Macao(china) bought this ship @ 20 million USD in 1998 for Casino site and other entertaiment purpose.

she leaving UKrain in July 1999, but as we all know , it was some military equipment trading between 2 nations under the civilian cover. Turkey refused her passing on the excuse of safety...and China sold and TOT some weapon systems(Ex. WS-1 ), set Turkey as the Tourist destination country which would bring the profit and did other efforts. Turkey agreed her passing around one years later.

she arrived in China on 3 Mar 2002.

the first refit took place on 26 Apr 2005...but just some basic work was done.

after many years research and planning, the final refit began in Apr 2009.

Sorry, after years of discussion, I expected that people will have some basic knowledges about this. After all, this thread is years old. Do you really expect people do post old news?

The carrier was purchased from Ukraine in 1998 by the PRC, reportedly for use as an amusement park, and moved to China. She has since been fitted out by People's Liberation Army Navy as an aircraft carrier for "scientific research, experiment and training."[6]

That is from a wiki source. When you say link, I assume entertainment blog is not among them. When a simple google and wiki source will tell you that it was never intended to scrap yard.

What looks like either an actual J15 or a mock-up on ex-Varyag's deck:
