My personal opinion is that no major deals are going to happen before 2024 elections, the gov. fears another fake propoganda driven rafale protest
Government gives zero f to Rafale protest

Populus here connects way more to things like reservation, local politicians, farm law, Hindu - Muslim...it's close to impossible to mobilize a significant amount of public here by saying government bought overpriced Rafale when Mudi Ji has such a mass appeal; people will simply shrug it off saying ha to kaun sa mera kuch jaa raha hai

Media walas making us "garam" with sutro se pata chala hai articles.

Modiji will leave us "thanda" while going to France, taking photos with that homosexual Imanuwaal Makroon and coming back with nothing except MoUs for civilian investments, maybe

Modi fears Pappu's allegations, there is no need for a DILLI CHALO protest.

Dassault Aviation today announced a backlog of 164 Rafale fighters, and said a follow-on order from Indonesia for 36 aircraft is "pending," which will increase the total to 200. However, the Rafale production rate has only just begun to increase, to 14 aircraft last year, giving the company a production backlog of 14 years at the present rate.

Wonder when India will get its Rafale!

If the French protests keep going, might drop to 5 a year as well.

This is the main disadvantage of Rafale orders for the navy. I am worried that it's going to take too long to get them delivered. With the F-18 we could get all delivered with 3 years of signing the contract.
The main advantage is that the IAF already operates the Rafale so the navy can share training and logistics with the airforce. India already has a zoo of combat aircraft so I actually would prefer ordering the Rafale instead of adding another aircraft to the zoo once a decent delivery timeline can be arranged.

Maybe an extra Rafale line in India can help speed of production for the navy order and the MRCA competition?

This won't happen without gifting them the MRFA 114 jets order.
Which will result in crying from dalals of various foreign contenders and congress party.

So Gobi ji will not do that.
Gobi is scared of even allegations of corruption, and the dalal RR over this will be magnified by The Land of the Boeing and the Home of the Lockheed

Extra line for 26 jets may not be possible imo but if there are talks going on for additional rafales for the airforce then maybe.... i m just guessing idk much

Its possible if the order is for 62 jets which cost around 15bil$+, also it ensure more orders and keep US fighter jets away from India, also can ask more money for tech. Also Modi support Russian and French unlike UPA, which blindly brought weapons from US, Italy

US offers us obsolete stuff, and that too with a holier than thou attitude, asking us to take on a star spangled dog collar in order to take their Cold War era shit.
When we reject, then they cry why are we dependent on "russian weapons"

US behavior reminds me of Jobs-era Apple, India used to always get the year old outdated iMaal, after Cook became CEO India took on a first-class market status for them.

It's nothing related to Modi vs UPA, there is serious pushback over buying offensive platforms from the Americunts, if this is because of genuine national security concerns over random sanctions and refusal to supply us spares or missiles/bombs etc or because the Babooze and Generols are heavily compromised by KGB/Roosi intelligence idk.

Even this alleged Predator SeaGuardian purchase is said to be unarmed and surveillance-only, because arming it with hellfire missiles and their bombs would mean additional "regulatory" hurdles :bplease:

The ship INS Jalashwa was purchased from US and came with the expected start-spangled shackles, the kind India usually despises.

If America sponsors protests, then they can kiss goodbye to predators and other deals that will get them cash. Modi went to US first, lured them to defence deals where no final decision has been taken by GoI. Then immediately there was hue and cry in New Delhi that there is corruption involved. If Modi, wants he can up the corruption noises from opposition and sit on the file for long. Then Modi goes to France to negotiate for AMCA engine JV, Rafale and Scorpene.
Playing one against other. Modi is a gujju afterall

Scrap the MRFA and go with 26 Navy + 74 Air Force Rafale ? Would give the 100 order needed for a new line.
Also 74 + 36 already inducted would mean 110 Rafale for air force. Close enough for their requirements.

They will be forced as part of the deal to open a plant in India. They will be forced to guarantee QC of any jet made in India, which is a "backdoor" technology transfer. The backlog will lead to them losing money. Think beyond your petty politics.

Opening a production line in India where they manufacture 6 jets a year to start which increases to 12-14 I think would be smart, though it makes too much sense and you're right about the dalals

I understand the pain of adding yet another jet in the lineup so Rafale deal makes sense. Setting up parallel assemblies do not increase rate as effectively as increasing productivity at current line. Dassault plans to increase production to 36 /year by 2025 but seems ambitious.

I always find Indian purchases less pragmatic or practical, always more focused on optics and specs. Sometimes timelines, quantity and cost are far more important than anything else.

F-18 would have arrived in large numbers by the time first few Rafale show up. French Navy may transfer some of their own fighters to speed up training of Indian naval pilots but it will take at least a decade or more before Rafale-M can be used for IN operations!

A decade or more is a very long time to wait when the navy will be relying on MiG29Ks until then. Hopefully the French can actually meet the 36/year production target.
France only has a limited number of Rafale M itself so it wouldn't be able to spare many for the IN.
Conversely the US with its hundreds of F-18s in service probably has many old F-18s to spare for IN training if we went down that route.

Rafale-M Jets That Indian Navy Is Buying From France Likely To Cost 5.5 Billion Euros: Report
The 26 Dassault Rafale-M fighter jets that the Indian Navy will acquire from France are estimated to cost around €5.5 billion, according to Economic Times.
Just yesterday (10 July), the Defence Procurement Board, headed by the Defence secretary, cleared a proposal to purchase 26 Rafale-M aircraft and three additional scorpene-class submarines for the Indian Navy.
