Shia votes matter.
in recent years, it was announced for oman, kuwait, Mauritius , japan, UK as well.
sometimes our discourse makes us forget that govt and state are not the same, govts come and go, sovereign nation state remains the same.

it's the sovereign nation state that gives these honours, to a fellow sovereign nation state.

and in a recent think tank discussion, former NSA was saying, when a new political leadership is elected in iran, first call he makes is to a lucknow seminary.

Meanwhile India wants to mourn His Highness Irani Prez and Irani's themselves are celebrating with fireworks and wine!

Can anyone tell if Iran mourned any Indian leader ever on PM/Prez level?

Yeah Iranian drones aren't of high standards coz lack of equipments to build a good EO pods and they can't import critical parts used in pods as they are sanctioned

But on side note never heard such a cringe song in my entire life

Doesn’t matter. The support Iran has been giving indirectly on the Kashmir cause (on their end they required diplomatic support from one of the largest countries with huge Muslim population) which have divided Muslim world multiple times(when Saudis were against us), Chabahar port, intelligence in Balochistan etc is important. Symbiotic relationship. Last time an active PM of India died it was in 1984.

"International Barkha Dutt"

Slovak Prime Minister Fico was shot in an armed attack 3 days after meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

And

The Iranian President's helicopter crashed hours after his meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

Roots of the Iranian Shi'a mullahcracy & our Ithna Ashariaa Shi'a establishment based in Lucknow runs deep beginning with Ayatollah Khomeini al Hindi , which was an accusation frequently thrown at the late Khomeini, questioning his nationality during the Shah's regime.

In fact PKS in his blog Trishul wrote many years ago about Shi'a recruitment centres primarily based in Lucknow recruiting volunteers running into a few thousands to fight the ISIS in Iraq & Syria. No MSM ever carried any news related to this which till date remains an open secret. This wouldn't be possible without the nod of approval by the Indian authorities.

This is the extent of our relationship with Iran.

His great grandfather was invited to India by the then Nawabs of Awadh who were lavish contributors to Shi'a shrines in Iran & Iraq especially the ones in Najaf & Karbala.

They were only continuing in the tradition of their overlords the Mughals of inviting learned & experienced administrators & military commanders from Iran & Turan.

The Nawabs of Avadh being of Irani descent themselves & of the Shi'a sect went one step ahead & invited Shi'a theologians which the Mughals who were Sunni never encouraged.

When Khomeini's grand father made the journey back to Iran it was a homecoming of sorts. And there's no record whatsoever of Khomeini's grandfather returning due to the British. He just upped one fine day & left.

Maybe we (Shia community in India) should have some say in electing the next Ayatollah of Iran in future.

I doubt the GoI or the Indian foreign policy & security establishment ever sees the mullahcracy in Iran as benign. The Iranians themselves even otherwise are too full of themselves.

Even before the Iranian Revolution relations between Iran & Paxtan were always lukewarm in spite of them sharing borders & both being part of the US camp. It's another matter Iran under the Shah helped Paxtan during the 1965 & 1971 wars against India materially.

Basically what we have in common with each other is deep suspicion of the US led west which isn't unfounded. Besides our bonhomie with the Gulf monarchies is a very recent phenomenon. Otherwise our best relationship in the ME was with Iraq under SH & Iran under the mullahs as ironic as it may sound.

Plenty of other points of convergence too like Oil & NG, Afghanistan, mutual suspicion of Paxtan etc.

I don't like their influence in Kargil though.
When Suleimani was droned i saw videos of protests from there and it looks like some typical Irani ayatollah worshipping place, there are portraits of the ayatollah and all
