The OFB carbine is utter crap like it's old version. Long Stroke Piston and Ak like gas port.

This is a PT Pindad Assault Rifle. It's superior in every single way.
Pindad license makes Fn-FNC. You are just trying to shit on OFB. They might not have a solid history but each product should be seen on merits. JVPC is seeing widespread adoption, maybe this will too.

How big is the handgun market in India? Which handgun is produced (licensed) by OFB?

Don't compare JVPC with this OFB crap. JVPC was designed by ARDE. Same with MCIWS.
The carbine is also designed by ARDE. I dont think it's all that bad, but it's a little to late and like the JVPC, etc. will be given to police, para. JVPC had a long time in development, which this carbine doesnt have that time.

The carbine is essentially a repackaged Kalantak. They didn't even bother to upgrade the iron sights. Could have simply used a version of the JVPC ones. The weapon could have used more polymer to reduce weight. Barrel length is not conducive since you have AR 15s or AKS 74u having a smaller barrel length for the same class of intermediate calibre rounds. With the introduction of JVPC there is no market for this weapon.

AKS 74U - 5.45x39 mm

AR 15 PDW - 5.56x45 mm

JVPC - 5.56x30 mm

It's not a repackaged Kalantak, it's disassembly itself seems different from regular INSAS. The INSAS iron sight is also on the JVPC. JVPC and this carbine do not clash, but it clashes with Caracal carbine offer, etc. This carbine was created for that requirement, but it's a little too late. IA doesnt want the JVPC for it's carbine requirement.

If IA had opted for JVPC, don't you think that it would have created logistic nightmare as JVPC is 5.56X30mm whereas Caracal is 5.56X45mm.

Good luck to Sarkari OFB competing with this.

BTW DRDO (ARDE Parent Organisation) has cleared the CAR 816 CQB deal. I believe that once AK 203 production commences and the first couple of units are inducted, the deal with Caracal will go through.

Russians should not interrupt our policies .Also the price they are asking is double what they sell in Russia .Simply ripping of.

We are buying 10 times more Russian rifles than American ones.
Ak-203(750,000)
Sig 716(72,000)

ARDE has no involvement in the Caracal deal. No one cares if they cleared or not. All it did was produce this current Carbine with OFB in response. Little too late.

Caracal's carbine may not be coming at all... Unlike Sig-716 deal that was quickly done & we've started receiving the products in December, that one is essentially dead!
So I heard, but they need to pick one fast. No way I want the ARDE/OFB carbine to go through the same time as JVPC in development. Forget that wait.

I dont know if IA will ever order JVPCs, differently not for carbine requirement.

Deleted the original post by mistake.

...And for such a massive order, that's their bulk price!

But that's nothing new, it's what they've always done. Indians continues to suck them off & Russkys *** on their faces. What news?

Yeah, DRDO/ARDE "lifted objection" to Carbine import & then displayed new carbine to DM & in Defexpo (Caracal wasn't though)!

India had a multi caliber requirement with several rifles trialing all over then they switched ammo requirement like 2 times and all of a sudden AK203 just won a huge order. How?

Did the AK203 even trial all over India?? It sure as hell didnt compete with any other rifle, company. This was a token to the Russians, and it sure as hell better not happen in the FICV, FRCV program.

We did use if for long time... The prodigious geblniouses were going for Ak-103 until the Russians insisted on Ak-203.

But definitely didn't win though any competition though.

The deal will go through since each gun purchase is inked to an influential strategic partnership. AK 203 (Russia), SIG 716 (USA) and CAR 816 (UAE). As to the OFB Carbine, it's a fancy paperweight. However a few changes could make it much more presentable.

LOL! They made a copy of an FN FNC Carbine with digi camo, HK G33 charging handle, picatinny rails and AK style mag release!

Having said that, if there were no INSAS Excalibur rifle, then this would have had an easy domestic market. My take would be to replace INSAS in police hands with Excalibur and to give this OFB Carbine to SWAT units, paramilitary QRTs, VBSS teams and Coast Guard units.
