I think it is time for GOI to sanction drdo to build arresting gear for vikky & IAC-1's based on EM something like AAG on ford. Because if you not start soon then system won't be mature at time of replacment of current system on both carries or future carries.
Even if EMALS is developed, it requires huge power supply. Not possible with the current engines of Vikrant and Vikramaditya.

If we didn't have any plans, nor funds for AMCA... then absolutely yes. Upgrade Su-30 like J-15 with composite body, more powerful 3D-TVC engines & as good as possible EW.

Or else you'll end up with nothing (ie, overextending use of vintage crap) ... Like IN doubtlessly will after 2040 retirement of Vikky.
So we don't have money now but still planning follow on order going for 36 rafales and continuing on AMCA? Looking at dwindling IAF squadrons why can't we go build su 30 more?
IAF will never agree for this and still simp for additional rafales MMRCA( lAF chief still maintains MMRCA procurement is separate of Tejas MK1 and MK1A) and AMCA.

There were talks of navy being interested in GHATAK UCAV
An additional small LHD with CATOBAR can easily be used as a dedicated Armed drone carrier, they can be used for ASW and ASuW as well anti Ship role using Loitering Munitions like Harpy / Harop.

A 15,000 tonne drone carrier ship will be enough for carrying dozens of UCAVs for such roles considering they aren’t that big.

Like This is Thailand Navy aircraft carrier in parallel with USS Kitty Hawk, can carry around 26 helos, can easily carry 30+ UCAVs if it does so, it’s displacement is just 11,000 tonnes.

Not to mention that Thai Navy Aircraft Carrier HTMS Chakri Naruebet is a Ski Jump carrier, a flat-top Drone carrier of 15k tonnes can easily accommodate far more aircrafts compared to a ski jump one of the same class.

36 additional rafales, and scrap MMRCA, rest of 78 or so aircraft can be ORCA as in future as our economy will grow we will buy not just remaining 78 twin engine medium aircrafts as ORCA but more as well.

Exactly here IAF is compromising on numbers of advanced jets to be built or procured but not on latest technology bird or falling back to Su30. govt is requesting navy to completely drop 3rd carrier plans for Submarines where navy demands are both Subs+ 3rd carrier and navy doesn't want to fall back on Vikrant clone as need is 65k+ ton carrier. Simple we will go for 65k+ carrier or waste precious time like IAF did with Tejas untill Parikkar shoved it

I was not specifically talking about CATS , Yes AAG like system would need higher power but not as much as CATS.

One would expect a modern ship should have growth potential not just in sensors, weapons but also propulsion/power generation systems.
