In south-central, This seems to be very extreme, something I only come across Diwali. And trains which are bound to Purvanchal/Bihar.

Chath, Diwali and Holi are a must for BIMARULAND.
I suspect as much as 10 times the normal peope travel during this time.

Let's assume 12 million travel during chath from all across India.

It's enough to overwhlem any transportation system.

I dount any country has such kind of migration on yearly basis.

Ya'll Nibbiars more like expansion of other cities. Fore example, while the Kolhapur population is just 5.5 lakh under the KMC limits it's metropolitan urban population is 15 lakhs plus and end to end of 30 K.M's in all directions, unless cities like Kolhapur cities limits are expanded not developed to the international standards the cities like Pune will crumble under the pressure.

Even in normal days this is quite common in that area, pretty much why I never again travelled to east India by train.

That's quite an exaggeration, well, looking at your handle, I know that, you do have this annoying habit.

In normal days or times, only in general categories bogeys you see this type of rush, and that too happens when somebody is traveling from Delhi to moradabad areas or between big cities areas like Ghaziabad to Moradabad, Lucknow to Kanpur, etc.
I think Vande Sadharan is for thar.

The guys in those entire stretch use the long journey trains as some sort of locals of Mumbai, there too you don't see this type of rush.

This type of rush only happens during Chath, Diwali and Holi, when a man is far away from family and is getting his ass worked regularly seeks some solace in festivals.

No country in the world can do any wonders as what happens here, in China too you see rush when their New Year happens.

Japan never did this, Bullet trains are costly there too.

USA has planes, which they manufacture, they subsidizes and then get fantastically in a perpetual DEBT problem which will burst in future surely, certainly you don't want this solution.

The amount of railway infrastructure is such huge and the amount of trains, such as SAPURNA-KRANTI, SHRAMJEEVI, MAHAMAYA, VANDE BHARAT, NETAJI EXPRESS,ANANDVIHAR GARIBRATH, and your known JAMMU-TAWIetc. and many upcoming too.

So, tame down your hyper-negativity, things don't change this fast, unless you are China ofcourse which build infrastructure and then have Evergreen.

Also, those horrific clips (depicting cheeni trains) were doing rounds here on DFI barely a year ago; I think everyone here has watched them.

I would honestly like to have the IR invest big on capacity expansion (they already are; albeit slowly). They are mostly done with electrification; nothing stops them from going big on capacity enhancement. Although increased capacity requires painful land acquisition proceedings and possibly, more and more DFCs. Increased speed will have to be accompanied with less and less no of non AC coaches (to reduce drag). There are trade-offs involved.

Same closet Jihadi Twitter handles doing rr over packed unreserved coaches will be breaking bangles if IR limits non AC coaches on newer trains or decides to hike fare.
