When I went past this I was shocked at how huuuuugggeee this building was, and apparently this is only the phase-1, the entire project would be multiple times bigger than this. Unbelievable stuff.

Bagdogra Airport in Darjeeling, West Bengal is about to undergo significant expansion as the Airports Authority of India (AAI) prepares to commence the project costing around ₹1,000 crore.

As a result of this expansion, the airport’s current capacity of 0.75 MPPA (Million Passengers Per Annum), will be increased to 10 MPPA. To facilitate this expansion, AAI has engaged CP Kukreja Architects (CPKA) as the Architectural & Engineering Consultant, responsible for creating the necessary drawings and plans.

The plan encompasses a range of facilities, including 11 Aircraft parking bays, Link Taxiways, commercial plots, hotels, Cargo facilities, Terminal building, and Aerobridges, among others. The project will be developed in a phased manner.

The land area allotted for the project is 104 acres, with a total construction area of 1,076,391 SqFt. The estimated construction cost of the project is around ₹1,000 crore.

They should spend some money to develop some settlement around, it genuinely feels like an airport built in the middle of a tea plantation village with lack of adequate infra for passengers. And it looks more like some bus stop than some major airport considering it is the one that's meant to get you to Darjeeling.

They should have made a greenfield airport IMO considering the traffic that it gets. Current one is part of AFS Bagdogra, not unlike the one at Pune. Long over due this since I always felt this place was like a poultry farm.
