Iska 50% bhi kar dete toh mein impress rehta.

I too had suggested something similar.

Like it or not theres a saying..Fauji ka dimag ghutney mein hota he..aur Infantry wale ka toh pakka hota he..maybe thats the reason that we have better ideas here on the forum rather than them having it even with SFTC.
There is no lack of ideas and proposals rather execution of them.

There is no reason to change Marcos you might want to raise a more elite unit out of them but no reason to expand.
IMO Marcos edge it used to have is no longer there. Their current training / deployment patterns Match a Specialized Naval Cdo force that can be deployed in larger numbers.- like the royal Marine commandos. Or Force Recon Marines / MARSOC type force. Your Vanilla seal type capability will come from here . We don't need a larger Marine corp. From here raise a More elite unit for strategic naval special operations and Maritime CT

The strategic unit won't be contributing much in a full fledge war. They in their current form is best for them let's just disagree here

I think Marcos should expand their operational experience first, They surely have developed in terms of ttp and gear but they still only have experience in ops in or around wular, being qrt to zulu force and some anti piracy ops. Anti piracy ops and qrt role can be carried out by vbss and ghatak/cat easily.
Its sad to see marcos with better equip ,sops and night fighting capabilities being limited to bandipora, while para sf are chosen to do cross border raids(which they carry out in daylight).

Yes its a fan art, older insignias have been retained. Only the words "para airborne" being replaced by special forces.
These are from the time when these bns were tasked with airborne role.

Replace the word airborne with special forces

that sums this entire farce up

Seriously **** all the generals sat around in Delhi thinking this is a good idea. If you needed further proof of the idiocracy that occupies the highest positions then here you go. Okay resources are scarce but why further dilute? I’d honestly love to see a counter-intel investigation launched on these monkeys to see who they are talking to/being influenced by because at this point it’s almost indistinguishable from intentional sabotage

Many years ago i had proposed the following.

Merge every ghatak platoon into a ghatak battalion in every regiment. You will have a commando "ranger type" capability at a tactical level - dedicated to their AO. Freeing up SF/Para etc from theater level tactical operations including routine CASO-COIN

Merger the Para Batallions, PBG, - Pathfinders and other parachute units (art / eme/ medics) and certain SFF parachute units into a Parachute Brigade / divison. Along with dedicated Aviation assets- You will have a strategic expedentiary force projection capability. The SFF units will be the dedicated mountain capability of this formation.

Merge The Para-Gurkhas and the Para SF units into A Ranger Regiment type Unit, For strategic Commando Operations. Call it the Special Forces Regiment.

From the above SF Reg create a new selection program to raise a SOF Unit on the lines of the SAS. - don't make selection open to all. Selection only open to The SF regiment. By default you will get older , more experienced and mature candidates.

Do the same with Marcos - expand Marcos create a Marine Cdo Formation - like the British Marines (size and mission) -(with a proper plan for support from naval assets - aviation / support from various other arms - subs, LPDs etc). from there select and create a smaller SBS type strategic SOF unit.

From Garud carve out 3 dedicated units. - CSAR, JTAC and Force security/CT.

Doing the above requires an organizational structure change - not really more money - also requires that each Mil Arm has its own dedicated SOF command. Organizing like that with own unified dedicate procuring, training sub commands will utilise the current money more efficiently.

Put the new army SOF unit, SBS type unit, and selected elements of Garud CSAR and JTAC + a battalion from the SF regiment under a seperate command - give them dedicated air & ISR assets - based on our own ability to fund and actual need. - You will have a dedicated Tier 1 type command ( from an Indian def sense - project power (both soft and hard) in our neighborhood and to SEA and eastern Africa during peacetime)

SG should continues to be the SAD type element of RAW and again should be strategic under the NSA.
Anyone with any sense has proposed similar things

but instead they are going the exact opposite way- decimating any specialist capabilities that may exist within SF and simply handing out balidaans like they are participation trophies.

as I’ve said a few times the system is so rotten it needs to be torn down and reworked. PARA SF are a lost cause, a new SMU needs to be raised completely separate from the Para regiment and their meddling hands. this SMU shouldn’t be larger than a battalion in size (initially) and should be structured on the squadrons model of SAS/Delta/DEVGRU with rotations in and out of training/deployment/alert/rest for them. Then you can build all the support infra around this core (aviation, intel, enablers, stc

The existing para regiment should be tasked with the 50th airborne (independent) regiment a a combined arms airborne strike force with expeditionary capabilities made up not just of infantry but artillery, signals, combat engineers, mechised recon etc)

of course we are just dreaming. The current IA leadership can’t think past numbers on a spreadsheet and think if they give everyone a SF tab then they’ve magically created capability

On par with US Army SF command but with maybe 10% of the budget and that too no permanent global deployments like the US have. The gap between IA ‘SF’ and the rest is only going to grow larger now

They didnt have enough money to properly equip the original para sf, they ended up adding more personnel. What a genius Idea.

That and the fact that to this day there is ZERO centralised or formal selection and training process for IA SF- every battalion is left to do it how they like. Now you’ll have more airborne guys selecting/training their own guys and at the end of it calling them SF. Who is maintaining SF standards? If a child is left to mark their own homework what results do we think they will come up with?

What could go wrong?

Like i said, it’s impossible to tell the difference between intentional sabotage and low IQ dumba$$ry anymore.

And when the inevitable failures happen there will be faux shock and outrage and blame put on the juniors not the multi-star generals who have long since retired into luxury.
