I saw this on reddit. But this is mostly confusing, someone from one other navy i.e british i think made a more interesting chart, that is on horizontal axis, there are years i.e each year until 2040. Each year has a space with a vertical bar extending on top of them. On each of that bar ships are depicted. Your kinda depiction doesn't take into account of which year they are gonna add including those that gonna be decommissioned. That another chart is more intuitive.

Then why don't you quit the forum? I am only saying that the SSBNs which are small and can't carry large number of ICBMs are practically useless. This is in context of Arihant class subs. Nothing wrong in trying assess with high certainty whether Arihant is a SSN or not by going through all possible angles.
Do you know how wrong you are here?

i did write the tentative commissioning dates all of which are before 2031

i didnt add the decomissioning cause its debatable sometimes navy doesnt decommission the ship and it remains some year after its formal decommissioning too

yeah bar charts are better than theory too

also our procurements are very much (in volume) compared to that of the british navy
'i would make a better graph when i have more info

Alas, he seems quite ignorant of his wrongness.
man just assume that we need 1000 nukes to stop china or pakistan in reality 100 would be far far overkill and maintaning nukes is costly too thats why usa cut the number from 20000 to 5000 now while russia cut it from 27000 to 7000 now as with every thing bombs have a shelf life and extracting the fissal material is also a tidious process
plus steps taken we made arihant to make an s5 thats the goal in long term while arihant would be changed to ssgn probably

Why does IN lag behind in domestic manufacture of submarines?
They have managed to produce designs for everything from aircraft carriers to corvettes and sarkari shipyards build them, armaments can be imported and many electronics are supplied by BEL.

Technologically what are the hurdles for this?

literally no one knows why we cant manufacture a conventional sub even after making them form 3-4 decades

we even made a nuclear ssbn but a conventional sub nope

Here's H I Sutton the best OSINT on submarines . He doesn't produce much content for his YT channel which is a shame & he's an unhealthy obsession with midget submarines used to traffic drugs from Mexico to the US.

But check out his channel nonetheless for those interested in submarines. You could also follow him on Twitter where he releases much more content including links to articles on his blog about the latest developments in the world of submarines.

Apparently I was wrong about the functions of the AIP or at any rate half right about it. It is also used as a power source to run the motors driving the propellers instead of exclusively charging the battery pack which is usually tasked to run those motors.

The latest Taigei class of submarines have actually replaced the AIP with Li ion batteries though I'm not sure about the entire process .

Navy wants stealthy propulsion and generally quiet boats. Indigenous AIP development is a recent thing and is still undergoing tests. Making a conventional sub quiet is quite the challenge, hence the delays. China doesn't care, they are printing noisy diesel subs. Also dilly dallying on whether to have tube launched or silo launched cruise missiles, have also caused delays. Navy wanted to expedite it by shopping abroad but nobody wants to share their golden goose AIP/battery tech. And forget Japan, they couldn't even sell us a few US-2 seaplanes. Hopefully at least the integrated mast collaboration goes through.

true but i think navy should fast track the ssn project so that we may complete 6 till 2038-2040 also i think ssn is the way forward since with growing economy pakistan would be reduced to what mexico is for usa that a 10% region of our armed forces can take on pakistan while 90% bash china
while im very skeptical of others navy has proved its efficiency and is very good too i hope for a good blue water navy in the future

Navy won't fast-track anything until DRDO retrofits an old sub with the new AIP and gives a full demo. Indian bureaucracy moves at it's own pace.

Still needs to be over 1 million tons of displacement to be a real player and over 3 million tons to be a real heavyweight.

Y'all nibbiars think we should go with the German sub from a purely geopoliteeks perspective, not technical?
The sub they're offering has been exported to 4 countries, the Spanish one is only in Spain.

However the krauts are a poodle of Uncle Sam so this subs deal may be another way to get a leash on us.

OTOH the bratwurst enjoyers will do mujra for a few $$$ so we can have them as a slave like how the Turks(defence) and Chings(economy) do

Spaniards are meanwhile offering PHULLL TOT TRANSFER SAAAAR Altho their tech is Ethanol based and not hydrogen fuel cells like the Germans
Unfortunately Germany is the only real option is we want a proven fuel cell AIP. German AIP subs have been successful with both Singapore and Israel. Even the South Korean sub technology is derived from German subs.

I had hoped that we could have taken what we learnt from the French in building a quiet conventional sub and mated it with DRDO AIP for the next generation submarines. The three follow Sorpene need to be ordered and hopefully we can negotiate the evolved Scorpene like Indonesia and the rights to build derived follow on classes with DRDO AIP.

However, if the Navy really doesn't trust the Indian AIP enough then German is the only option.
