If 8 NGD are to be divided between two shipyards then GRSE will be selected along with MDL. There were reports that both shipyards were approached by the Navy for accessing their capabilities. @Adm Kenobi

instead of getting old genration nd used chakra 3 in 3.1 billion dollar for 10 years lease...we should develop our own SSN with these 3 indian companies collaboration:-
1:- DRDO - experience in making arihant class SSBN.
2:- mazagon dock - experience in customizing/making scorpion class diesel submarine.
3:- L & T - is building midget size submarine.
they also making amogh, adamya nd maya AUV underwater drones.
a SSN give 40 years service...if we r leasing chakra 3 for 10 years lease in 3.1 billion dollar. that mean its 40 year cost is 4×3= 12 billion dollar. meanwhile much advance US virginia class submarine cost near 4.3 billion dollar nd russian yasen class cost near 1.6 billion dollar (according to wiki). so we should build our own SSN instead of leasing russian SSN coz they will milk us extremely...if russia or france want to help in assistance nd some parts for our SSN...then they should welcome.

even if russian give their latest nd advance yasen class SSN....3.1 billion dollar for 10 year lease is too much to pay. we should invest this 3 billion dollar for 4-5 diesel submarine....yes diesel submarine not give us range, more weapon carrying capability nd staying underwater for months like SSN. but diesel submarine is quiter than SSN or more stealthy. in exercise even diesel submarine show its worth against SSN. like our kilo class win against american loss angeles class SSN. i dont think chinese SSN is as capable even older american SSN. japanese r investing in their diesel class submarine against chinese navy. although they can keep SSN for them. we should first think about strengthen ourself in indian ocean. more number of diesel submarine can do it....30 diesel submarine, 10 SSN nd 10 SSBN should be in our navy if we want a blue navy. SSN development should run in parallel with procurement/development of diesel submarine.

so no destroyers untill 2033-35...we hv to manage with 7 kolkata nd vishakapatnam class modern destroyer. with 3 older delhi class destroyer.
project 18 will come in picture near 2035. we should built 3 more little upgraded nd higher VLS (48+32= 80 VLS) 8000 ton vishakapatnam class destroyer. so we hv 10 modern destroyer nd 6-8 project 18 crushers untill 2040. but this is not happening, we will remain 6-7th powerful naval force untill 2040. 8 nilgiri class nd may be its 8 following order give us breathing space though. .

NGD will be executed in two tranches of 4+4 and will be divided between two shipyards in both the tranches. (2+2)+(2+2). The second tranche will be ordered once the first has been delivered. AoN does not exist for any of this, not even a file has been sent to the DAC/MoD for approval, this is the current trajectory.

This procurement procedure may change again as the IN is still assessing its options and has sent no file to DAC/MoD.

No. We only use HE-frag. The Chinese prefer APDS.

yes, 500km range is low, & pak submarine launched subsonic land attack cruise missile having range around 450km.

Tomahawk is not fired from 533mm torpedo tubes, so the comparison is not really an apples to apples comparsion.

It is fired from torpedo tubes. Los Angeles class, Seawolf class and Astute class fire them from their tubes.
