a noob question
how is a 76 mm gun better than 100 mm gun?
It depends on the gun and the requirements of the navy .
Srgm has better rate of fire, different types of versatile ammo and its produced here only downside is less amount of destructiveness. its not like we will use main gun for anti shipping roles so its overall a better gun than a100

Its not. The aim is standardization. BHEL already makes the 76mm Oto Merla which is used by a number of other ships in Indian Navy. Better to have one type of gun for lower costs in spares and maintenance.

As for rate of fire, its a trade off. A-190E fires 100mm rounds at 80 rounds/minute. It is being replaced by Oto Merla/BHEL SRGM that fires 76mm rounds at 120 rounds/minute.

What Navy actually wants is a 127mm Oto Merla that fires at 32 rounds/minute. But I think they only want that for the destroyers.

If I am not wrong, BHEL only makes the gun mount and basically what we see above deck. Ammunition handling system which is everything below deck is likely imported I think, so wouldn't the recent ban(which is lifted now though) may have impacted the whole system availability.

Nah. They call the entire thing an SRGM (Super Rapid Gun Mount). It includes the magazine and reloading mechanisms.

Even in annual report they've written that they provide the entire range of product support including major overhaul:-

76 mm Oto Melara SRGM and DART / VULCAN ammunition is good against cruise missiles, anti ship missiles and limited coastal / anti ship bombardment.

Essentially all ship based guns, unless you are taking about rail guns or HVP have very little practical application like a sidearm for a soldier.

Even the USN is going for 57 mm guns on their Constellation Class Frigates.

From the recent news report of contract signing 2 upgraded srgm for grse talwar class frigates, it says, "The upgraded SRGM is an advanced weapon system capable of managing different kinds of ammunition to engage ‘manoeuvring and non-manoeuvring’, radio-controlled targets.
It has the capability to fire advanced ammunition with higher range, as well as programmable ammunition."
So are we looking at strales version of oto super rapid and also the ability to fire vulcano ammunition?? Their annual report does say about upgrade option.
This just came before the news of leo group unban news. How can contract for a strales version be signed even before unbanning and negotiations for strales and vulcano would take thier sweet time as well, negotiations for local manufacturing would be further headache.
Is this true or it's just a regular srgm??

Maybe they are looking at strales. But then, you are right, they shouldn't be able to offer this before the ban was lifted. Maybe its the reporter making a mistake. BHEL has officially only stated that they are looking forward to strales and even 127mm. The line you quoted is from the reporter, so he could be making assumptions. So, the ones ordered for Talwar class are likely to regular ones. We'd see more news coverage if they were strales.

DELIVERY OF FOURTH SCORPENE SUBMARINE ‘VELA’ TO INDIAN NAVY

Posted On: 09 NOV 2021 5:37PM by PIB Delhi

The fourth submarine of the Project – 75, Yard 11878 was delivered to the Indian Navy today, 09 November 2021. Project – 75 includes construction of six submarines of Scorpene design. These submarines are being constructed at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) Mumbai, under collaboration with M/s Naval Group, France. Christened ‘Vela’, the submarine was launched on 06 May 19, and has completed all major harbour and sea trials including weapon and sensor trials despite COVID restrictions. Three of these submarines are already in commission with the Indian Navy.

Submarine construction is an intricate activity as the difficulty is compounded when all equipment are required to be miniaturised and are subject to stringent quality requirements. Construction of these submarines in an Indian yard is yet another step towards ‘AatmaNirbhar Bharat’.

The submarine would soon be commissioned into the Indian Navy and enhance the Indian Navies capability.

Its a pretty good upgrade for them if we consider what they are using right now. Rest it doesn't change or add anything.
Definitely, four of this along with 4 ADA class (Babur class) corvette and Jinnah class frigate will give their Navy decent firepower.
4 existing frigates and the two opv/ missile vessel too add to the capabilities.
