The Best of E2C and D had electronic jamming systems and speed about 600km but helicopter based one is only Airborne early warning and speed only half of E2c
150 ???I think around a 150 of these is Ideal. Around 10 can be ordered for MHA to be used by Paramilitary units like NSG, RR, BSF (Alligator Commandos), COBRA, CISF (Black Panthers), Assam rifles and Coast Guard SPB (Sagar Prahari Bal), another 40 for Infantry (Ghatak units). Biggest use would be for SF units SFF(20), Paras(20), Marcos (20), Garuds (20) and possibly 20 for Siachen use if possible.
Actually, the CH-53K costs almost twice what the V-22 does.if we want a troop transporter there are many comparable helicopters that are way cheaper! If we want a heavy lift helicopter, Chinooks or Super Stallions are still the better choice (that's why Sikorsky is developing a new version CH 53K and US forces already ordered numbers of it). Only in small numbers as an AEW&C aircraft for carriers it might be a good idea, but is it worth such costs?
Because it can do a lot more...Why do we need the Osprey...for me it looks more like those fancy phones the kids carry these days...
But what can it do for India?Because it can do a lot more...
Carry more troops with VTOL capability compare to any other aircraft possible. But what can it do for India?
Not really. What makes the V-22 special is its ability to carry said load of troops twice as fast as the helicopter its replacing... with 3X the combat radius.Carry more troops with VTOL capability compare to any other aircraft possible.
I remain skeptical of the E-2's ability to operate effectively from a STOBAR ship. The best source I could find indicated the the E-2 would only suitable for IAC-II: ** AERO INDIA: Indian navy assesses E-2D for carrier based AEW missions ** and this piece indicates that it would be ground-based only. ** New Outer Wing On E-2D May Be Key To Indian AEW Competition **. If the IN is serious about improving its carrier-borne AEW capability, best choose a platform that can operate off of all-three ships....But since we have been offered the E-2D hawkeye...
Nice. One only needs a gigantic, undefended boat-ramp or unguarded pier to get the poor infantry guys to a point where they can start humping miles and miles to where they actually want to be. BTW, the 1930s called... they want their plane back. This is a better choice for island territories:
What India requires is a means of inducting Infantry or SFs on unoccupied and undefended Islands of A&N and Lakshadweep Island besides for Islands like Maldives, Mauritious, Sychels, Medagasker or such like outer territories.Nice.
