no it should be not cancelled because its needed for air force .
Congress Government has signed the deal but which Government will be at the time of payment and delivery , this matters the most .
what im about to write could be wishful dreaming
but if we could change LCA engine from GE to russian product,
( as the chinese are using )

that would really get a message across , wouldnt it
even if we start by doing trials - it might have some nice effect

in fact we should study the feasibility of not depending on one supplier
for our LCA engines - until kaveri works
after all, who is helping us in kaveri - not the usa is it ?

that 's right
we do need their technology - that is a fact of our lives !

best response tit for tat equalizing what they have done
they cant complain about that , can they ?

meanwhile they need our money for jobs
and we need their tech - for our LCA etc
so it is a simple exchange

no need to be special ( junior ) partner
despite what they calin as treating us as a one of their allies

just a simple economic agreement
they sell we buy
and if we can get it from others - all the better
helps us diversify our sources in case of another "event"
until we can mfg our own
Completely agreed . Good military relations but less involvement in domestic policies and no interfering in ours foreign policy . We are having our democracy and ours laws and we don't need anyone to teach us how to handle things and as a friend they can but as a master we wont let .

India Awaits Authorised US Response, to Pursue Privilege Issue - The New Indian Express

Ignoring assertions by unnamed US officials that the case against senior diplomat Devyani Khobragade will not be withdrawn, India today said it would continue to "seriously" pursue any misuse of diplomatic privileges by the US diplomats in India.

Dismissing reports from New York quoting US officials to say that they are going ahead with the indictment of Khobragade on charges of visa fraud, the Spokesperson in the External Affairs Ministry said in "pluralistic democracy" there were many voices but the government will respond to "designated channel" which was US State Department in this case.

He said the US State Department has conveyed that a process was on to look into the entire arrest incident and India was "awaiting for an authorised response" and asserted that there was a "reflection of regret" which was conveyed both by US Secretary of State John Kerry and the State Department.

Asked about delay in submission of details by the US Embassy about the Indian staff employed by its missions and individual US diplomats, he said, the government was still awaiting details required the Embassy, which has requested some more time in view of the holiday season. "We are processing lot of information and variety of thoughts and make no mistake, we are serious about processing and pursuing this matter," he said.

India's demand for these submissions was made in the wake of the arrest and strip-search of Khobragade, the 39-year-old 1999-batch IFS officer, on December 12 on the charges of underpaying her maid.

Meanwhile, the ministry was also investigating the "leads" it has got on the misuse of diplomatic privilege in signing-off the tax exemption for the air ticket purchased to "evacuate" from here to New York the family of Khobragade's absconding maid Sangeeta Richard.

It is understood that the government knows the identity of the US diplomat who has used his privilege to sign-off the tax exemption for Sangeeta's family.

It is now investigating as to who purchased the ticket, which was issued by the official travel agent of the US Embassy.

Asked if the UN had informed the US State Department that the Indian diplomat had full immunity at the time of arrest as she was accredited as "Adviser" to it, the Spokesperson said,"I will find it very surprising that an international organisation does not, periodically, inform host government about those who they have accredited".

Since the UN accreditation happened on August 26, it is assumed that the host country was aware of Khobragade's status, he said, adding that the Indian diplomat repeatedly kept telling the US authorities at the time of arrest that she has diplomatic immunity as the Deputy Consul General.

No point in time was she asked if she had additional immunity, the Spokesperson said, asserting that the "victim (Khobragade) cannot be blamed" for not talking about her additional immunity.

He also noted that government has "set in motion" the process of monitoring and assessing the inputs and details it has sought from American Embassy by setting up a special group, comprising inter-divisional experts, including from legal, financial and human resources departments of MEA which will meet regularly and "may be on daily basis, if need be".

With India deciding to enforce strict reciprocity about the privileges enjoyed by American diplomats posted in the country, the government has withdrawn extra privileges enjoyed by American Ambassador Nancy Powell and other diplomats such as special access at Indian airports.

A comment from that article from who appears to be an Indian-American...

Laddakhisharma Sharma

the article and its headlines are eye opening for indian diaspora living abroad and earning their wages by hard work and efficient output.that corrupt, convicted, cruel, criminal *ndian who is pampered by vote bank politics of dalits or pseudo secularists or pseudo socialists are bent down to eat the same branch of the tree on which they r sitting.this episodes put all indians living abroad very corrupt, cruel, criminals claiming false human rightists attitudes and enjoying diplomatic immunities when caught after all the diplomats are representatives of indian diaspora abroad.instead of maligning the whole community this criminal lady should be brought back in india and given good media thrashing but opposite is happening because sadist's anti-Americanism is prevailing in the country.
This is the divide on this issue between Indians in India and former Indians who are now Americans.

New years man, I'm sure there's atleast one guy who's into drugs here, plant a class A drug onto him, and boom, you've got your person! It's pretty serious offence, and I think the max punishment is death. :D

We can write all we want...but ultimately the govt has to do something! Also remember mms's daughter is an american citizen, and a lot of leaders have some sort of personal connection to the U.S, which gives them some leverage if they want to play dirty.
MMS's daughter is an American citizen? Wow.

Given the advantages that the US lifestyle has over Indian lifestyle, anyone with some skill prefer to be in the US.

Mortgages on house are for the picking, cooking is not necessary since one eats out of cans of processed food, electricity is cheap, everyone can afford a car or two, there is no requirement of formal clothes, and its oodles and oodles of money when compared with the Indian currency that one can flaunt when on a holiday in the native land and when someone runs out of money just claim bankruptcy so on and so forth.

So, if MMS' daughter is an American now, good for her! ;)

Don't they send dollars to their relatives in India? (OT)
Rarely can a student send dollars.

Once they get a job, sure.

$1 = :inr: 61.91

So, it is no great burden or a sacrifice~ ;)

Even $100 through paypal is fine for the Indian part of the family just as unburden some to an Indian giving :inr: 100 to his family!

Now compare :inr: 6100 for $100 and the chicken dropping of :inr: 100.

So, the US sure is a Mecca for many Indians and their family back home!

Delving into the article one finds it interesting...........

Two points have been made here at the outset: (i) that it is an open and shut case that India and Devyani will win the legal battle in the US; and (ii) that it will be in long term Indian interest if the "closure" of the Devyani case were to formally drag on a few months.

These twin arguments derive strength from the chance discovery, and a belated discovery, that Devyani was indeed "accredited" to the Permanent Mission of India (PMI) in New York as early as 26 August 2013 and thus entitled to full diplomatic immunity, more than hundred days before she was arrested on 12 December and incarcerated.

On 26 December, the Ministry of External Affairs came up with a belated revelation that Devyani was indeed accredited as an "advisor" to the PMI with full diplomatic immunity with effect from 26 August 2013.

Under the "Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations" Article 4 Section 11A specifies "Immunities from personal arrest or detention and from the seizure of their personal baggage" of all representatives of members to the United Nations.

Section 16 of the same Article specifies that the expression "Representative" shall be deemed to include all Delegates, Deputy Delegates, Advisors, Technical Experts and Secretaries of delegations. Her arrest, therefore on 12 December, was contrary to her status on that date.

This explains why the US has already initiated an internal probe into the Devyani case while acknowledging mistakes in the episode.

This brings us to the second point mentioned above: how it will be beneficial for India if the formal "closure" in the Devyani case were to take a few more months, which it will.

Thanks to the Devyani incident, we have come to know several things. The first thing is that the American diplomats in India have routinely been enjoying all sorts of privileges without reciprocating these to the Indian diplomats in the US. This has been going on for years and no government in New Delhi ever dared to question this unequal diplomatic practice. This may change forever, and it should, after the Devyani incident has blown the lid off this diplomatic apartheid.

Two, the US must understand that it has to take India as seriously as it takes China and Russia. The Americans are known to handle China and Russia with kid gloves mainly because it knows that if Washington were to do anything outrageous with Beijing and Moscow the retaliation will be fast and furious.

As per the World Bank-IMF projections, India will be Number Three economy in the world in just 15 years, relegating Japan to the fourth spot. Even now, India is ranked Number Eleven, with Canada managing to have nudged past India for the tenth spot. This economic reality should be reflected in the international politics and diplomacy too.

India can do this and drive the point home to the Americans in the coming weeks.

I do not see this case being resolved without a retaliation.
Not handled with care - Indian Express

A snippet from the article:
The day after Devyani Khobragade was subjected to unprecedented humiliation, a colleague called to relate the story of Sergei Lavrov, long-serving Russian permanent representative to the UN in New York and now Russian foreign minister. His official car was towed away by the New York traffic police. It required one telephone call to Moscow. After six American cars went missing, Lavrov got his car back with a note of apology.
Meanwhile, the U.S has not submitted the details asked of it by the MEA, also they continue to "review" the UN application, and say there is no timescale... hmmm.

Continuing from my previous post.........

Clearly, the Americans have bitten much more than they could chew. Their bluff would be called soon.

Once the Americans are cornered and fall in their own trap, India must deliver its master stroke. India must demand the scalp of the US attorney for New York's South District Preet Bahara, a native Indian from Ferozepur. Bharara is afflicted with the MATA syndrome – More American than the Americans. That is why it will be in India's interest if the "closure" in the Devyani case lingers on for a few months.

This is because, once the US officially acknowledges its mistakes in the Devyani case and withdraws all cases against her, there will be immense pressure on the MEA from the Prime Minister's Office to forgive and forget.

Forgive is okay; but India must not forget the humiliation the Americans have heaped in the Devyani case.

Now that the Indian Govt has made a stand on this, it will be very difficult for India to back down; at least not this Govt with the election on the trot.

There is no doubt that the US should be taken to task and not allowed to treat India as a surrogate of the US.

Instead of asking for Bharara's scalp, India should ask for Sangeetha Richards since she has a case in India against her and she is not a US citizen. If / once she is acquitted in the case, she can be free to go back.

India has lost the opportunity already. She is humiliated and India is not going to reciprocate the same to their Diplomat. In Punajbi we say 'jadey yan kadey' Now or Never.

For the likes of PM and Sonia Gandhi advisers Manish Tiwari et al, this case will be put on very slow burner for the new government to take it up. For congress-I she is out of the Jail and the litigation process will take its time.

Also I doubt this USA stooge PM will do anything more than this.

Diplomat's husband is US citizen, PM's daughter is US citizen, American are laughing and Indians are wasting bandwidth.
