I don't think barak will be the answer for the air force simply because whatever plane we buy to replace the mrca cancellation will probably have a deal for bvraam. But in a naval role it is definitely a game changer.

The point is giving the short legged and mediocre aircraft like Tejas the capability to engage Flanker at a distance where it cannot fight back. Derby ER or even Meteor for that matter is not going to change the fact that a twin engined Flanker with massive internal fuel and a superior radar will choose its playing field, not the otherway around. A 200km+ range missile can seriosly dent its advantages, turning the tide in favour of IAF as numbers are clearly on the enemy's side.

It is a cost effective, single engine light weight 4th gen meant to replace Mig-21 in numbers. You get what you pay for. At $30 mil a pop, it is not a bad deal but lets not fool ourselves into thinking it is anything more in its current form.

as Russia is not selling S-400 to INDIA what are our other options ??

I don't think that is the case , the negotiations are going on for making of some the parts of the system like maybe some of the missiles in India plus the system would have come only after 2020 as their primary users the Russian military already have a huge order that needs to be fulfilled before any foreign country. So we have time to negotiate with Russia.

These systems were on IAF's dime so they were only to protect only certain important installations not whole of India.They would have been used against important airbases of our enemies.

If you are letting Russia build 12 nuclear reactors that should be more than enough leverage to negotiate a good deal for s-400. I have a strong suspicion China blocked the deal.

First off,the title can be a little misleading.

Secondly, the 40N6 and 48N6 are the missiles for S-400 not the system itself.

The 40N6 missile can engage targets at 400km ,while the 48N6 is older and hence only 250km.

Both are going to be available for export.

The only S-400 missile not for export is the 9M96 which has extremely good probabilities of killing it's target (1 for rockets - guaranteesd) and 0.9 for Aircraft (pretty close to guaranteed) and it makes sense for them not to sell it

Nothing is official yet. This reminds of the smerch deal where the rockets were suppose to be manufactured in India (32 different types)and the backtrack on tot killed any smerch purchases. I think the deal maybe delayed because modi asking for make in India to be incorporated in the deal ? Possibly manufacturing some missiles?And Russians not ready to tot?

No S-400 yet and nothing on FGFA. Slowly but surely, we are drifting away from Russia and inevitably towards US. Now, if we do go for F-35 and US helps us out our AC, that'll just confirm this. Consequently, Russia will go on to sell to Pak.

dunno, but with US involved in it... there are severe doubts that India will go for it. Though Israel did offer the system. Trust Israel to develop a spin off version with India as junior partner, that too in case India's BMD development goes on without fruition.

What is happening? S400 deal not finalized. Negotiations are still on going. Also, the deal to build 4 talwar class frigates not yet confirmed. Only came up in news but not true.

The only deal confirmed is manufacturing 200 Kamov 226 light helicopters for IA under Make in India program.

Will go through, but with what limitations is the question. If the range is reduced to 250km, we will need to buy more systems.
