20 M 621 20-mm helicopter cannon

The Nexter 20 M 621 is a single-barrelled, 20 mm cannon, which can be adapted for either left- or right-hand flat feed. It uses 20 mm M50 type (HE, AP, HI) electrically primed ammunition that is interchangeable with the US M56 rounds used for the M61A1 Vulcan. The cannon is 2.2 m long, 203 mm wide and weighs 49 kg. Its rate of fire is selectable between 300 and 740 rds/min or single round. The average recoil force is 400 kg, but with a muzzle brake in place of a flash eliminator, and using a shock-absorbing mount, recoil is reduced to 250 kg. The 20 M 621 has a muzzle velocity of 1,030 m/s when using HE/HI and 1,000 m/s when using AP. The barrel has a life of 8,000 rounds and the cannon life is 16,000 rounds. The gun fires international standard 20 × 102 ammunition. The HE explosive ammunition round, with optional tracer, weighs 100 g. It contains a charge of hexal and its auto-destruction fuze has built-in delayed arming and storage safety devices. The round explodes into about 40 splinters, which will penetrate 40 mm of hard wood at a distance of 1.5 m from the initial point of explosion. The AP hard core armour-piercing tracer round weighs 110 g, and is designed to be used against light armoured vehicles at ranges up to 800 m, being capable of piercing 25 mm of armoured plate. The HI incendiary round, which is fitted with a simple percussion

Kunal Sir, are you referring to the BAE Hawk/Sitara/CAT? CBU-105 or JDAMS on them... but will surely miss the GAU-8/A

Actually we already have what we need, If one wish to have a Jet at cheap capable of flying hi-altitude and able to carry recon pod or laser Pod and can drop 250-500lb laser guided bomb is AJT or IJT already in service..

Not at all crap... US planned to retire A-10 with F-35... but later realized it is not possible. So they did a multi-million $ upgrade and made it into A-10C with PE Upgrade.

Now they wont be replaced till 2040. USAF quoted that trying to replace A-10C with F-35 is a giant leap backwards in CAS capability. That is why around 242 units are still retained in service.

USAF is only retiring about 100 of them as they would no longer be needed in that many numbers after the Afghan War. Still, The A-10 will receive a service life extension program (SLEP) upgrade with many receiving new wings.

But we should not buy old things!!....we can have good attack helicopter fleet instead of A-10...
i believe Rudra, LCH and apache can complement these also new Mi-17 v5 are also armed and can be used for air support and anti-armor roles.

But india can also get some c-130j gunships...but for this i believe we should have 50-60 c-130j in transport role and 5-10 in gunship role..

To put more punch, sides of helo should have mini gun or machine guns.
Rudra might not need it but we can add them to Dhruv and Mi17

AC-130Spooky operates at night and exclusively in an area free of Air defense system though its a night mare for enemy ground forces.

I would like to see the rugged SU-25 in service this plane can serve in any conditions but then adding so many types of aircrafts to IAF inventory will become a logistic nightmare.

think about the current situation SU-30MKI, MIG-21.MIG-27,MIG-29, Jaguar, future Tejas and Rafale that's crazy.

Don't forget Kargil, IAF was delayed by MOD for 2 months and our men were fighting without air and artillery support only with Mortars..

When MI-17 and few fighters were downed, IAF stopped CAS for a week and again IA had to fight without cover..

well Kunal Sir i don't know why the MOD is hell bent to purchase an additional 197 light hellicopters from abroad when our own Dhruv can easily fulfill the task of a LUH with ease and grace.and btw will those LUH be armed like the Bell OH-Kiowa helicopters of the U.S. Army?
