The excess price is probably life time costs, not purchase cost. Aren't Russian aircraft much more expensive to operate?

I hope that GOI will finaly come to senses and decides that India can not behave like oil-rich Sheiks by spending senselessly on imported arms.
If you are suggesting that building it yourself is a cheaper, then good luck with that. Military equipment is a great excuse to waste public money. Bigger and bigger consortium's are the way to go. The EF has four countries but I bet they wish the French had stuck with them. No doubt the French are too.

2500 outstanding A320 orders or 0 Rafale orders, which sounds like a better investment?

Let's hope that money allocated for MRCA will now be spent on housing projects to the 1 million+ Dharavi residents instead. In other words playing Santa to India's own people instead of playing Santa to the fat cats of western arms industries.
Dharavi has its own scheme.

Sorry mate .. we are due to replace our jets , hence we need the best to thwart any misadventures from neighbors of big scale so that they stay focused on damaging walls or maybe sneaking a few targets through borders and dream to bleed through that way.

i heard that tender would get expire on 31st Dec!
is that true????????

Decision on combat aircraft within fortnight

The review terms 2011 as "The Decisive Year for the MMRCA", suggesting that the winner of the contest to sell India 126 medium multi-role combat aircraft could be announced this fortnight. MoD sources indicate that the price quoted by both vendors is significantly higher than the Rs 42,000 crore that the union cabinet has cleared for this purchase.

Rafale now on par with EFT in the polls...

Rafale sure is the best for IAF.

Well, are you sure-what would happen if the EF wins!!! Just trying to be a devil's advocate though I'm perfectly happy with either as long as the IAF gets an upgrade.

I said this in 2007 or was that 2008. :p

Paaji can back me up. :D

Yup. No loss if EF wins either. It has come up plenty since 2007 RFP.

Edit: As long as Pooper Hornet and Diaper did not win, I was happy.
