India intends to purchase about 130 Su-30MKI fighters from Russia by 2020, thus the total number of such jets operated by Indian air forces will increase to 270 ones, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the head of Rosoboronexport's Department of Air Forces, Sergey Kornev.
He will head the enterprise's delegation at "Airshow China — 2012", which opens in Zhuhai on November 13th. "It is planned that Indian air forces will operate about 270 Su-30МКI fighters, which will form the basis of the country's fighter aviation, by 2020. At present Indian air forces are operating about 140 multi-role Su-30MKI fighters. The fleet has amassed about 100 thousand flight hours", — Kornev said.
He reminded that the first Russian Su-30MKI fighters were delivered to India in 1996. Nowadays India is carrying out active re-equipment of the combat aircraft fleet and the country intends to provide its air forces with the most advanced aircraft, Kornev noted.
In accordance with these plans, Indian air forces intend to order additional batch of Su-30MKIs (42 vehicles should be ordered in 2012 – editorial comment). The licensed assembly of the fighters will be carried out by HAL (India). "We have already elaborated the draft contract and transferred it for confirmation to the Indian party. We hope that the contract will be considered and signed by the end of 2012", — Kornev said.
