Ships full of food and supplies from India will now arrive directly in Qatar's Hamad Port without having to stop anywhere in the Gulf region, offering fresh relief to the small emirate blockaded by its neighbours since June 5.

The new route links Hamad Port in Qatar with Mundra and Nhava Sheva ports in India, according to the Qatar News Agency.

Indian ships will arrive at Hamad port every Friday, with the first shipment expected to bring in 710 containers, said Qatar's Ministry of Transport.

Qatar has been looking to break the blockade imposed on it by Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain, blocking several of Qatar's usual land and maritime freight routes. Flights have also been affected by its Gulf neighbours refusing to let Qatar carriers use their airspace.

Doha has established direct shipping routes with Oman and has sought alternative suppliers of foodstuffs and goods from nations such as Turkey and Iran.

This is sure to piss off the House of Saud, UAE and Bahrain! But then, we have excellent relations with Qatar and can't ditch them for the sake of regional politics.

On 5 June, 2016, PM Modi was received by His Highness the Emir, with ceremonial honours, at Emiri Diwan. The Emir hosted a Lunch Banquet in PM's honour. The two leaders exchanged views on bilateral, regional and multilateral issues of common interest.

During the wide ranging discussions held in a most cordial and friendly atmosphere, the two sides, agreed to constitute an inter-ministerial High Level Joint Committee to regularly review all bilateral matters, as well as regional and global issues of mutual interest.

Indian embassy statement after the meet: Recognizing the existing goodwill, the two leaders agreed to further broaden and deepen bilateral engagement in diverse fields of mutual interest. They agreed to further enhance high-level political exchanges, defence and security cooperation, trade and economic relations and people-to-people linkages. They stressed upon the need for building a strong partnership for the 21st century between the two countries in keeping with their responsibility for promoting peace, stability and security in the region and the world.

Thus it is our bounden duty to help out the Qataris in times of distress notwithstanding the geopolitical scenario unfolding in the Middle East.

This is realpolitik.

Keeping in mind Indian expatriates all over the Middle East, I think India is showing the correct gesture. It doesn't overtly threaten anyone but extends the hand of assistance to Qatar.

This is not to be misconstrued as a defense of Qatar. Qatar has been a major backer of ISIS.

I would consider merging this with this: Saudi-Qatar Rift

Please don't @pmaitra we need India perspective to this situation. If you find something off topic or not related to India perspective, please move it to Saudi-Qatar thread.

we supplied food(things like wheat and sugar) to Iraq even during post gulf war sanctions, that is what we do and that is what we are. This deed then ensured the release of those 40 nurses from ISIS in 2014/15, because of good relatioships with baht party.

This is good thing, no need to take this negatively.

Personally this is how i like india to be, and glad that this is being done.

yes that's what i was pointing to, "Pakistan has told Saudi Arabia it will not take sides in the diplomatic crisis". if india involve with qatar in this and that might urge pakistan to take arab side which might make terrorist organisations (ISIS and others) red eye towards pakistan.

India is a sovereign nation and are slaves to no one unlike a certain Mulla country.

India workers do minor jobs in Saudi Arabia yet they are respected and no one dare call them slaves while same can't be said for Porkistan. Then come our engineer that work in their Oil drills how can they deport players that support their backbone.

Saudi Arabia is India's biggest Oil importer they won't try to piss us off in fear of losing our trust to Iran. India didn't give a shit when US asked us to boycott Iran why should we care now.

India is a global Super Power believe it or not, we are 1 B people that can protect its interest.

India just needs to educate more of its people, build better infrastructure and destroy anti national elements. Once this is all done we will churn out Engineer, Doctors, Businessman, investors and everything important like crazy.
