Any Scorpene firing BrahMos will be using the still conceptual BrahMos-M / BrahMos-NG which is being developed to fit into the standard 21 inch torpedo slot. Hence this missile will be tube launched horizontally and not require a VLS. The Klub currently used by the IN Kilo's is launched with same method.

However as mentioned the missile is at this point only conceptual so Exocet purchase for a temporary stop-gap is required. The French tubes are not compatible with Russian missiles otherwise I'm sure IN would prefer to use the Klub.

Yes. The Blackshark will be the primary offensive weapon. SM Exocet will be a temporary solution as mentioned only until the BrahMos-M / NG becomes operational. As this date is anywhere near 10 years from now it makes perfect sense to buy the Exocets rather than leave the Scorpene's toothless.

BTW until now the Blackshark has not been ordered due to AKA's stupidity. INS Kalvari will enter service without ANY weapons unless the French decide to be generous and give us some of their own stock (since they use the same weapon on their SSN's). This is because WASS has stated they require about 18-24 months lead time to begin deliveries after contract signing. So even if MP signs tomorrow the Kalvari will still not have any torps when she goes out on her first patrol.

28 October 2015: Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders reached another milestone today as the first submarine 'Kalvari' being constructed at the shipyard was separated from the pontoon and set afloat at Naval Dockyard Mumbai. A puja ceremony was earlier undertaken at Mazagon Dock on October 27, 2015. The boat is now slated to undergo rigorous trials and tests which would certify each system to its fullest capacity. Rear Admiral R K Shrawat, Chairman and Managing Director, MDL said on the occasion that setting afloat of the boat is a historic milestone, which has been achieved through the hard work and perseverance of all executives and operatives of the Submarine Yard of MDL. The accomplishment of this milestone would initiate commencement of sea trials which would eventually lead to commissioning of the boat into the Indian Navy in September 2016. Mazagon Dock is constructing six Scorpene class submarines (Project 75) under transfer of technology from DCNS, France. Subsequent boats will be delivered at gaps of nine months from each other. The project is expected to be completed by 2020.

So we are pressing for another 3-4 Kalvari with Exocet missiles and 2 outdated Kilo, rather than pressing the peddle on the Project 75I and the Indian SSN project. Awesome!

I think it's a logical step to buy two more kilo class submarines as we have expertise in operating them and as the Russians are currently building them for both domestic and export orders. But a even more logical decision would be to order 3-6 additional P75 vessels with AIP, while we finalize the P75I models and the yard.

What is the time interval before the next one ... I read multiple sources some claim it will be 12-15 months some say 9-12 months...

I read somewhere who even said 6 months...

What is the status of the next sub?
The article says 9 months. That is not bad, given a submarine is launched with everything fitted, unlike surface ships.

It would have been more delayed if it was not for a theme where someone question French ability to deliver on time on projects where other similarly are not. Good of the French to be positive and move in right direction. Wish all the best ahead.

India To Purchase 3 More French ‘Scorpene’ Submarines

With neighbouring China and Pakistan strengthening their fleets, India, too, plans to replace its ageing underwater combat arm.
The Narendra Modi government recently said that it would soon purchase three more ‘Scorpene’ submarines from France to bolster India’s naval power. India has already ordered six such submarines that are constructed at Mazagon Docks. Now, the government plans to issue a tender for six new-generation stealth submarines by 2016.

Indian Navy Chief Admiral Robin Dhowan has said that the main aim of the proposed move is to effectively counter China’s strategic moves in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). He also said that India currently has only 13 ageing conventional diesel-electric submarines, 10 of which are more than 25-year-old, and one SSN on lease from Russia. According to the Navy chief, the Russian submarine is not armed with nuclear missiles in accordance with international treaties.

On the contrary, China has 51 conventional and five nuclear submarines. The Asian giant also plans to induct another five JIN-class SSBNs with the 7,400-km range JL-2 missiles. Pakistan, too, has ordered eight more advanced diesel-electric submarines from China. “Collaboration between Pakistan and China is nothing new, nor is their development of Gwadar port. The geo-strategic environment keeps on changing. We take note of the developments and factor them into our own plans,” stressed Admiral Dhowan.

Asked about India’s plans to counter its two nuclear-powerful neighbours, the Navy chief said that Indian Navy should be a multi-dimensional, networked force. According to him, the Indian Navy is also combat-ready and it can take on any challenge in the IOR at any time. Admiral Dhowan claimed that the Navy has the ability to safeguard India’s maritime interests from the Western Pacific in the east to the North Atlantic in the west.

Admiral Dhowan further claimed that with existing 138 warships, including two aircraft carriers, 48 major warships and 14 submarines, as well as 240 aircraft, helicopters and drones, the Navy could act as net security provider in the IOR and counter China’s increasing strategic footprint in the region.
