Kaspersky had switched to a subscription model those USP was cheap, effective VPN. When GOI made it mandatory for VPN services to have to fork over data to GoI, legit VPN services suspended the operation including, Kaspersky.

GoI passed a law that requires VPN to store personally identifiable information for atleast 5 years and let govt access it if requested.

Entire VPN model is anonymity and bending over for any govt would cause loss of trust globally so most good ones left.
