One thing that's struck me. All those India tourism vlogs from foreigners with millions of views, 90% plus of those views are from Indians themselves. It can be clearly seen in the comment section. Just Indians praising our own country. This means that these videos have very negligible reach or interest outside India. And the vloggers are well aware of this.
Almost everything positive about India is purely seen by a domestic audience with a small spattering of foreign views. It doesn't even show up on anyone's feed outside India. And if you type in India from a foreign IP address, it's all western media stuff, none of the Indian content creators or the foreign tourism vloggers. Except somehow vloggers like Karl Rock or that other guy who simply moan about scammers and touts. Oh those travel far and wide.
This whole thing has been a giant circle jerk for Indians, with foreign vloggers taking full advantage of the easy views they'll get. These videos have had no significant image building and soft power outreach as a result. Whether maliciously by the algorithm, or due to the fact that Indians themselves flood these videos so much that youtube targets it only towards Indians. Attempts at showing positive videos from India through the internet have been an epic fail.
