Chindits: IAF Carries Out Its Biggest Peacetime Rescue & Relief Ops In Snow-capped J&K!
IAF's one of the biggest peace-time day-night rescue and relief operations for the stranded civilians of J&K in recent years started with ferrying of over 1,100 people, including ladies and children in the snow-bound Kashmir Valley, which remained cut off since 07 Jan 2012 today.
" On the request of Jammu and Kashmir Government, Indian Air Force, launched rescue and relief operation in snow-hit Jammu and Kashmir since today morning, and has successfully conducting its night-long operations carrying over men and material to Kashmir," Air Commodore Nitin Sathe, Air Officer Commanding of Air Force Station Jammu said today to the reporters at Technical Air port Jammu.
"In the first-ever massive relief operation in this year, we had several sorties of IL-76 and AN-32 aircrafts to ferry men and material to Kashmir," he said. " We are happy that our main aim has fulfilled as every passengers went home safely" he added.
"Our choppers flew over various avalanche-hit areas to drop essential commodities to the people on 09, 13 and 17 Jan 2012," the AOC said.
Dr Pawan Kotwal, Div Com of Jammu Division who was personnaly supervising the administrative measures in the technical airport said " we have given preference to those who are stranded for a long time and ladies and children". He also told that if requires more rescue sorties will be organized. He also thanked the Air Force for prompt action at their end.
