Not just india, russia and china too voted against Iran.
we had already stated during the first vote in 2006 itself that though v endorse Iran's right to civilian nuclear energy, v do not want another state such as Iran with nuclear weapons and that Iran must comply and clarify the international community's suspicions. Voting against the resolution now or abstaining would only degrade our previous legitimate stand.
Further, centrifuge technology had been proliferated by Pakistan and thus abstaining could deny us a reason to prosecute pakistan on its charges.
After such a long time, the International community has come together on this vital resolution, and Indian should not be the one who played spoil sport.
I have sympathies for the Iranians though though governed by hardlines, nuclear energy is an iranian right as a npt signatory. Considering this a 'Iran with p5 + India' initiative, similar to north korea hosted by India could have brought a true breakthrough.
