Rastrakutas always had edge over cholas during land battle.

He would've crushed and killed mahmud of gajni terribly bringing the wrath of rudra in the battle easily
Imo if indians used more infantry like Macedonian phalanx/hoplites to defend against cavalry charge many indian kings could've beaten gajni to death because biggest force of him was horses

2 invention that changed military warfare in medieval era were stirrup and saddle
These 2 invention turned warfare into cavalry centric
Central Asia rulers had far more superior horses even most of india rulers used to buy less capable arab horses

This cavalry warfare caused havoc in indian subcontinent.
Initially from 700-1200 AD these arabs were badly beaten many time except during gaznavi and Muhammad bin qasim got succeed to some extent.
Even junayd,Ghazi Saiyyad Salar Masud and many failed badly against indian rulers but these 2 invention transformed warfare and indian ruler lacked more capable horses.

Within 100 years after 2 nd battle of tarain almost all of indian subcontinent crumbled before these turkic forces except oriya, ahoms, keralits, survived the wrath
