Not Chinese but of a lot of interest to Chinese aviation enthusiasts -- the KF-21. They rapidly flew six prototypes including two twin-seaters in rapid succession between 2021 and 2023.

Some noted it was as fast as COMAC flying 6 prototypes of the C919 between 2017 and 2019.

Koreans have passed the Japanese in aerospace. Much respect from China!

This is supposedly from a video clip where the number "15" was actually shown on the red banner:

A superb achievement!
Many years in the coming! It began in 1990s around the same time the WS-10 started flying. It was a clean sheet design in contrast to the WS-10's CFM56 origins. Western pundits for years question whether the WS-15 was even real! It made little sense to have an engine in the same class while China only began tackling the WS-10 with its many teething issues.

But WS-15 as a new Chinese design was able to incorporate advancements made by the Chinese industry in building the WS-10. When the WS-15 core was ignite successfully ignited in 2005/2006, the WS-10 was only just started to be tested on J-11 testbeds!

WS-10/WS-15 projects gave China confidence to run multiple projects nearly simultaneously with conservative and more aspirational objectives. We see the same in the WS-13 and WS-19 medium engines :)

The launch of WS-15 was not a surprise,

It was already a success when it first appeared in official media statements, if you know China's official media release practices.

Now the focus is on the H20 and sixth generation fighters

Interesting relevation about the J-20 twinseater. It was a private project from Chengdu not a sanctioned (officially funded) project from the PLAAF. This is like the FC-31/J-35 from Shenyang. China's aircraft firms are beginning to anticipate future requirements and experimenting with major design and production models without waiting for orders (and funding.)

There are now multiple projects like this at all of the aircraft producers -- Chengdu, Shenyang, Sha'anxi, Xian, Guizhou, Hongdu.

This was done in the past like the Q-5 from Nanchang (now part of Hongdu.) But the scale is very different now because the aircraft industry has reached a critical mass where there is enough profit from sales that they can design and build prototypes without official funding.

There is J-16 AI prototype that is privately funded by Shenyang :)
