In 2009, he said Hypersonic Brahmos will be ready in 5 years. In 2010, same 5 years.. In 2011 also same 5 years... :emot15:

Don't know what happened with Nirbhay and shaurya missiles!!! :emot154: We have very poorly managed Defence Organisations.. poorly planned and managed..
The reality is, hypersonic missiles are a decade or more away. They just don't have the guts to admit it.

Ppl in Defence Organizations are having so lethargic work culture.. I remember once the MoD has admitted the work culture in HAL & ADA has to be changed...

We have so many potent minds within those departments but the BIG heads don't want those young minds to overrun them..:emot159: can say overruin them.. It happens with all industry.. But it should be controlled at least in Defence Departments..

And we are not utilizing big institutions like IIT into defence technical prospects..

BRAHMOS missile to be tested in Baltic Sea in 2011

PARIS (BNS): Test launch of the BRAHMOS supersonic cruise missile will be carried out from the Indian Navy's Project 11356 frigate in early 2011 in the Baltic Sea, BrahMos Aerospace Joint Managing Co-director Alexander Maksichev has said.

"Cruise missile BRAHMOS will be tested during the ship's sea trials in the Baltic; that will happen early next year," an Itar-Tass report quoting Maksichev said Tuesday.

Maksichev who was attending the Euronaval 10 said, it was difficult to set the precise time for the trials as it will all depend on the weather in the Baltic.

The Yantar shipyard in Kaliningrad is building three Project 11356 frigates for the Indian Navy. The first of them would start sea and mooring trials very soon, Maksichev said.

He added that all the work related to the BRAHMOS weapon system installation and commissioning is on schedule.

Brahmos SL will be integrated with Scorpion Submarines

Indo-Russian joint venture BrahMos has prepared a new version of the same name by a supersonic cruise missile, which can be applied to submarines. About this Itar-Tass on passing this exhibition Euronaval 2010 "said managing co-director of the joint venture BrahMos Alexander Maksichev.

"The rocket is ready for use from submarines," – he said, recalling that the carriers of this variant of a cruise missile submarines will be like "Scorpion," the order for which the Indian Navy deployed in France. Maksichev noted that in the near future will be summed up the tender for another batch of submarines. "We have initiated work to a set of airborne weapons and submarines of the party was included missile complex" BrahMos ", – said Maksichev.

Cruise missile BrahMos are in service with Indian Army and Indian Navy surface ships. Batch of missiles in ground-based version and ordered the Air Force of this country. In addition, work on adaptation BrahMos to the Su-30MKI Indian Air Force.

A Submarine version now!! Great!! :emot112:

'Indian armed forces to be equipped with BRAHMOS before exports'

NEW DELHI (BNS): Indian Defence Minister AK Antony has said export of the BRAHMOS missile will be taken up once sufficient numbers have been provided to the three services of the Indian armed forces.

"Once sufficient numbers have been provided to our armed forces, export will be taken up," he told Parliament, Monday, to a query on BRAHMOS missiles.

Orders have been placed by all three services of the armed force for inducting the world's only supersonic cruise missile, he said.

The Indian Army and the Navy have already inducted the missile. The Block-II version with the capability to hit precisely a small target in a cluster of larger targets has made the missile even more lethal.

While the work on integration of air launched BRAHMOS missile with Su-30 MKI is in progress, the mobile land attack version is getting ready to be inducted by the Indian Air Force.

The Indian Russian joint venture BRAHMOS missile is a two-stage vehicle that has a solid propellant booster and a liquid propellant ramjet system. The missile can fly at 2.8 times the speed of sound.

It can carry conventional warheads up to 300 kg for a range of 290 km.

The cruise missile is capable of being launched from multiple platforms based on land, ship, sub-marines and air, and currently the focus in on for the development of its air-launched and the submarine-launched versions.

BrahMos unit set to bag key orders

BrahMos Aerospace Thiruvananthapuram Limited (BATL), which caters to the product requirements of the country's defence, aerospace and nuclear industries, is set to bag key orders that will fuel the company's bid to become an industry major in these sectors.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), it is reliably learnt, is contemplating making the BATL its next work centre for production of cryogenic and semi-cryogenic engines.
"Presently, the cryogenic as well as liquid engines for the ISRO are made by a consortium comprising Godrej and MTAR Technologies. Technical collaboration would be a lot easier with the BATL taking up the job as the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre [VSSC] and the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre, which have designed and developed the engine, are located within four and 30 kilometres from it. BrahMos Thiruvananthapuram has been asked by the ISRO to produce some components of the cryogenic engine, but to execute it in full, it requires the Rotary Vacuum Brazing facility.

A request to set it up at the BATL is being pursued with the ISRO," a top BrahMos source told The Hindu in Thiruvananthapuram two weeks ago. The BATL had earlier purchased equipment worth Rs.25 crore on a grant from the ISRO.The company is sparing no effort to deliver before March next a BrahMos cruise missile container (canister), ordered as a trial piece. "We have secured a crucial order to manufacture 135 BrahMos containers, each costing about Rs.30 lakh to Rs.35 lakh," said the source.

Already under fabrication at the BATL are the liquid Vikas engines for the ISRO and the firm has so far been able to deliver 16 of them. "In addition, an order for 12 more has come. Material for six engines is available and four would be realised this year itself," said the source. "The BATL makes the full engine in-house. And, the complicated friction ring of the engine is manufactured only by it," said the source.
The first set of subsystems of the BrahMos missile such as the FDU (front docking unit), shutter assembly and cable separator — together called 'metallic airframe components' — delivered by the BATL is undergoing quality and acceptance tests and the company is positive about getting a fresh order for 200 such sets. "This would require us to set up a separate production line and the process is well under way," said the source.

The machining capability of the BATL spans products with diameters ranging from 0.5 millimetres to 2.5 metres (for L-40 propellant tank cages).
With the process of acquisition of nearby land for the second phase development of the company facing delays, a modest complex for the integration of the cruise missile has now been carved out within the existing campus with assistance from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). Also in place is a facility for meteorology for the accommodation of fresh equipment.

The company, which had delivered three-piece manipulators (robotic arms used in atomic reactors) to the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) is hoping to receive supplementary orders and is negotiating with the BARC to set up a plant at the BATL for this.
"While assorted product range, relatively less volume of orders and research and development activities are restricting the company's margin of profit from leapfrogging, it is definitely growing at a comfortable pace," the source maintained.

Submarine launched BRAHMOS almost ready

Submarine launched version of the supersonic BRAHMOS cruise missile is in final stages of development, and Russia says that the new Amur subs being offered to India have the capability to launch these weapons.

"The submarine launched version of Indo-Russian BRAHMOS is in the very advanced stage of development," Chief of NPO Mashinostroyeniya (NPOM) Corporation Alexander Leonov here said.

Leonov said St. Petersburg-based Central Naval Design Bureau "Rubin" has already worked out options for the deployment of BRAHMOS missiles on the new "Amur-1650" conventional submarines offered to India, which can be launched from underwater position.

The new Russian conventional submarines will be equipped with tubes for launching them from underwater position, he said. India is facing problems in testing these strategic new missiles in the absence of a platform.

Indian Navy's current range of submarines including Russian Kilo Class, German SSK and the French Scorpene under construction at Mazagoan docks under an Indo-French joint venture do not have the capability to launch these supersonic missiles.

NPOM is equity partner in the Indo-Russian BrahMos Aerospace JV. Leonov said India-based BrahMos Aerospace JV has signed new contracts with the Indian Air Force, Navy and Army for the delivery of cruise missiles through 2017, ARMS-TASS military newswire reported.

RF-India BrahMos Aerospace JV sign new contracts till 2017

http://www.itar-tass.com/eng/level2.html?NewsID=15781841&PageNum=0

15.12.2010, 13.50

MOSCOW, December 15 (Itar-Tass) - The Russian-Indian joint venture BrahMos Aerospace Ltd. have signed new contracts on supplies of Brahmos missiles till 2017.

Under the contracts, missiles will be supplied to Indian Air Force, the Navy and the Indian Army, chief designer of the NPO Machine Building Military Industrial Corporation Alexander Leonov told Itar-Tass.

He declined to specify the price of the contracts. But the official stressed that they "envisage supplying a good deal of the Brahmos supersonic cruise missiles".

"If India intends to acquire new Russian non-atomic submarines, the Rubin Central Design Bureau for Marine Engineering will prepare variants to be equipped with the Brahmos missiles," Leonov said.

According to earlier reports, India intends to acquire six non-atomic submarines. The Indian Navy will put out a tender for purchasing submarines with a standard power plant. Rosoboronexport says it offers the Amur-1650 submarine to participate in the Navy's tender for six non-nuclear submarines.

Established in 1998, BrahMos Aerospace, a joint Indian-Russian venture, produces and markets BrahMos supersonic missiles, whose sea-based and land-based versions have been successfully tested and put into service with the Indian army and navy.

The BrahMos missile has a range of 290 km (180 miles) and can carry a conventional warhead of up to 300 kg (660 pounds). It can hit ground targets flying at an altitude as low as 10 meters (30 feet) and has a top speed of Mach 2.8, which is about three times faster than the U.S.-made subsonic Tomahawk cruise missile.

The head of BrahMos Aerospace earlier said that the recent acquisition of an assembly plant in the state of Kerala from Kerala Hightech Industries Ltd, in addition to the main plant in Hyderabad, would allow the company to increase production to 50 BrahMos missiles a year and fulfill orders from the army on schedule.

Analysts estimate that India could purchase up to 1,000 BrahMos missiles for its armed forces in the next decade, and export 2,000 to other countries during the same period.

Torpedo room of a Kilo can't even take a Brahmos.

BrahMos JV paves way for future India, Russia joint defence projects

MOSCOW (PTI): The success of Indo-Russian JV BrahMos
for the development and production of lethal cruise missiles
has set a "Golden Standard" for future joint defence projects with greater Indian participation, according to a respected defence publication here.

"BrahMos has been an unqualified success.

The numerous benefits it has already yielded include: commercial profit for both partners; a tangible improvement in the fighting ability of the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force; development of new technologies, which has been especially important to the Indians; a chance for Russia's NPO Mashinostroyeniya corporation to put its potential for innovation to good use," Moscow Defense Brief (MDB) quarterly writes in its latest issues.

"The BrahMos Aerospace Ltd. joint venture has become a vehicle for future implementation of other Russian-Indian projects, on an even large scale and with greater Indian participation," the journal notes in an article contributed by top defence expert Dr Ruslan Pukhov.

It underscored that the valuable experience of BrahMos, a fifty-fifty JV between Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Russia's NPO Mashinostroyeniya, in overcoming various legal, organisational and financial hurdles, will be invaluable during the implementation of other bilateral programmes, including the future joint projects of Multi-role Transport Aircraft (MTA) and fifth generation fighter aircraft (FGFA).

The company is known to be already working on new hypersonic BRAHMOS missile. But the unique experience accumulated as part of the BrahMos programme since 1998 has paved the way for even more ambitious goals, including new strategic ballistic and cruise missiles.

"For India, BRAHMOS has become one of the first standardised weapons systems which can be deployed by all three armed services - the Army, the Navy and the Air Force," MDB underscores.

It noted that the Indian Navy was the initial customer for the new missile, which can be carried by a variety of naval platforms.

These include the majority of the existing and future surface ships. The first ships to be equipped with BRAHMOS were Project 61ME (Kashin-Mod class) destroyers.

Two of them, the Ranvir and the Ranvijay, will also be armed with 8-missile vertical launch systems.

Other ships that will carry BRAHMOS include three Project 15A (Kolkata class) destroyers now being built in India, the future Project 15B destroyers, future Project 17A frigates and three Project 11356M (Talwar class Batch 2) frigates now being built for India at the Yantar Shipyards in Kaliningrad.

The future Talwar class Batch 3 frigates will also be equipped with the new missile system, regardless of where they will be built. In addition to surface ships, the Indian Navy plans to deploy BRAHMOS on submarines and possibly on land-based patrol aircraft.

The suitable airborne carriers of the missile include the Russian Il-38SD ASW aircraft and, in a few years' time, the Boeing P-8I Poseidon ASW aircraft which India has ordered from the US.

The Indian Army has bought hundreds of BRAHMOS missiles in the mobile land-based configuration.

These will be used not only against ships but also as a high-precision weapon against land targets such as command posts and key infrastructure facilities (the Block II LACM version).

The Indian Army has ordered 134 mobile anti-ship land-based BRAHMOS Block I missiles in 2006-2009 and another 240 land-attack BRAHMOS Block II in 2010, for a total of about 3 billion dollars.

Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force (IAF) is awaiting the completion of the development of an air-launched version of BRAHMOS, to be deployed primarily with the Su-30MKI fighters.

The Su-30MKI-BRAHMOS weapons system will be a truly lethal combination. First deliveries are expected in 2012.

At some point the IAF will also receive the BRAHMOS Block II version, which is designed to engage land targets.

MDB does not rule out that the 126 medium multirole fighters (MMRCA) for which India has announced a contract will also be fitted with the BRAHMOS missiles.

"Not only the MiG-35 fielded by Russia in the MMRCA tender, but its Western rivals - the F/A-18, Rafale and Typhoon fighters can all serve as carriers of BRAHMOS Block II missiles," Moscow Defense Brief writes.

The missile's ability to be launched from a wide range of platforms and engage a variety of targets has generated very large sales.

At present the demand of the Indian armed forces is estimated at 1,000 such missiles at the very least.

In fact, the need to fulfil the Indian orders is holding back exports to other countries.

The most conservative estimate for the size of the market for BRAHMOS throughout the life of the project is 2,000 missiles, worth over $ 10 billion.

"For Russia, the success of BRAHMOS has improved the chances of winning Indian contracts for aviation and naval platforms.

It is usually the exports of platforms that normally drive the sales of weapons to be fitted onto those platforms.

"But in the case of BRAHMOS, it is the other way around: the missile is driving the sales of aircraft and submarines that can carry it," Dr Pukhov writes in the journal.
